What makes German auto engineering different than Asian or American engineering
Small displacement of anything is a let down (somewhat). Mercedes used to have BIG V8 motors, now they go with smaller V8s (at least they do still have them). . V12s are unparalleled, going away but they were never really for speed….they were for prestige and “enjoyment “. It’s really unfortunate Toyota never stuffed a V12 in a Lexus…Toyota had one. . But at least they had a v10. A big KUDOS to GM and their giant V8s

Oh I beg to differ on this. Your statement depends entirely on the car it's in, I would LOVE a good 2.0 in a lot of cars since the Germans ones can bring some serious firepower to otherwise very slow cars at a great price. 500hp with just a tune is magic for otherwise boring cars

I wouldn't call that a "feature"
But even that, plenty of things to enjoy about a car with a turbo 4 cyl.
Okay, in what way is a 4 liter TTV8 putting out 500 hp and 500+ lb ft of torque a "let down".
You would never know the difference of the displacement if you drove them.

In any event, all the V8 engines I've had have been around the same displacement. 4.6l Northstar, 4.0L 1UZ-FE, 4.3L 3UZ-FE, 4.6L 1UR-FSE, 4.0 L MB TTV8

Yeah no doubt they make some nice impressive 2.0T. I was surprised how fast/responsive the GLE's 2.0 is compared to the RX's 3.5. What I don't get is why they have to mask this and mislead the public with their new naming. Is it cheating? How did they get approved for their naming? 560 or 580 for 4.0, 450 for 3.0 and 350 for 2.0. BMW does the same too. 40 for 3.0 and 50 for 4.4.
Start stop can easily be hard disabled if you want to or software disabled in nearly any car. A hybrid car actually stands a chance to make me $6000 today, I found one that has 65k miles that the owner is desperate to get rid of since it's having limp mode issues. I'll update on how it goes
Where does it say that numbers in vehicle names have to correspond with engine displacement? Its not cheating at all.
So you agree 4cyl engines are terrible? Pretty sure you have posted thousands of times here extolling the virtues of your 4cyl economy cars

I will say, a big kudos to Mercedes for going with the I6 in the S500, that is a very impressive offering in todays era. A unique experience as it is not a V6
Displacement is simply a result of engine design. There is nothing "better" about a higher displacement engine simply because it has higher displacement.
I have driven plenty of cars with V6s that had poor sounding engines with clumsy transmissions that made them feel lethargic too.

If a 4 cylinder is replacing a larger displacement V6/I6 then yeah, 4 cylinders SUCK! If new 4R were go from 4.0V6 to 2.0L I4 then that is really really crappy.
In economy cars, totally different as there is a place, and need for them there. Our 2.4L I4 is a far nicer experience than the 1.8....but I give a big kudos to Toyota for increasing their displacements for their Corolla, Camry and RAV4s which is something you do not see today. I would have to look up Mercedes Benz economy cars and look, but I highly doubt their cheap stuff is anywhere near the Toyota 4 cylinder motors for fuel efficiency and power in the base, low end models.
