Following are key findings of the 2021 study:

  • Infotainment remains most problematic category: One in four (25%) of all problems cited by new-vehicle owners are in the infotainment category, and six of the top 10 problems across the industry are infotainment-related.
  • Smartphone connection is top problem: For the first time since 2011, voice recognition is not the top problem cited by new-vehicle owners. The top complaint this year is Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity, which worsens significantly. This is a particular problem when these systems are operated wirelessly, which is increasingly common. “Owners want wireless connectivity, and the industry has responded,” Sargent said. “However, this has created a bigger technical challenge for both automakers and tech companies. Automakers generally are the ones facing the wrath of owners, but this is definitely a shared problem. Owners don’t care who’s at fault—they just want their phone and their vehicle to talk to each other.”
  • Mass market brands continue to outperform premium brands: For the past six years, owners of mass market vehicles have cited fewer problems, on average, than owners of premium vehicles. Premium brands generally equip their vehicles with more and more complex technology, which can cause problems for some owners. Lexus (144 PP100) and Genesis (148 PP100) are the only premium brands that perform better than the industry average.

I'm not sure just how much sense this chart makes, with Dodge and Ram at the top and Chrysler on the bottom.

That should tell you the Pacifica has issues. Since its debut I've been hearing people grumble about its in-car entertainment software.

J.D. Power's Initial Quality Study (IQS) attempts to assess vehicle quality by examining reported problems during the first 90 days of ownership. So it does not surprise me that the first 90 days of owning a HEMI powered Ram/Dodge is awesome. Then the allure quickly goes away when you look at J.D Power's Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) which assesses reliability and reports problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of three-year-old vehicles, which we know Lexus excels and Stellantis NV not so much. What have we learned? Hellcats are cool for 90 days

haha. chrysler only has 2 vehicles, right? 300 and pacifica. have no idea what 300 quality is like, you'd think after building them for decades that they would have it figured out. the pacifica seems hit and miss, maybe more miss.
edit: i see chrysler 300 in 'top 3' for large car, so all the issues must be pacifica!

wth happened to audi!?

It's definitely the infotainment systems with these luxury cars (Lexus excepted, as usual). They all seem to require multiple software updates right from the get go.

According to Steve, his first Pacifica was troublesome, but the new one has been much better.

Lots of Dodges (even Chargers and Challengers) are sold with the V6s.....although the list obviously doesn't break the vehicles down by engine. But not everyone can afford what a new Demon or Hellcat costs, particularly with dealer-markups....or to insure it.

Consumer Reports, a couple of years ago, also verified a very high customer-satisfaction rate with the Challenger.....more so than even with the Mustang. Probably will also be the case this year. That retro styling really hits it with some people....probably boomers like me. People in my area just love them.
