Great example of this is Maserati. Nothing special at all about a Maserati anymore.
I agree that brands can get diluted. Just disagree with your comparisons. what maserati has or hasn't done is totally different than maybach or amg.
Anyway, the EQE will come out. Apparently there might be an 'AMG' version of it (which i'm fine with). Competition is good, more models are good, amg (in all flavors) is good.
ev AMG, why would Mercedes use the iconic amg name on ev's? I'd think MB could of come up w/ ev performance name....
It will be as unreliable and expensive to repair as Mercedes ICE car. If you can afford it, buy a new Tesla. If not buy a used Tesla from a Lexus dealer. Lexus dealers thoroughly inspect the used Tesla as they do all other used cars they sell. The Lexus dealer (Lexus of Milwaukee) where I bought my Tesla even paid for Tesla to replace the 12v battery that failed at delivery after the Lexus inspection. How many dealers would do that for you.

Why would a Mercedes EV be any less reliable than a Tesla. EV drivetrains are relatively simple with very few moving parts so I would expect the powertrain to be very reliable. I think Toyota / Lexus will have issues when we go full EV...whats their value proposition if everything is now reliable? If reliability becomes universal, i doubt i would buy a Lexus.

Tesla integrates and simplifies as much as possible for example mega castings, cooling (octovalve), same for electronics. Mercedes is known for over engineering basically everything. Maybe their EVs will be different but don't hold your breath.
And Mercedes ICE cars are not as "unreliable" as people think they are. Having spent time on the MB World forums I have come to the conclusion that its not all that much different than Lexus...

I think Mercedes EVs will have the added advantage of much cheaper maintenance. Imagine, not having to visit a service center until something goes wrong (if ever). The future looks pretty good

Seeing that I spent nearly $700 on an oil change and tire rotation I would sure welcome that haha

‘It would be interesting to see what the real data really is. My money is on Lexus engines lasting far longer with less repair.

Tech-wise I agree, but business-wise they'll still find less than savory ways to make money.
