I'm saying they might want to create a new division of "tuned" high performance EVs like someone else suggested.

Using the AMG branding is the right thing to do

AMG's used to be handbuilt V8's, but obviously that no longer applies when Mercedes now slap the AMG label on any generic factory-stamped turbo 6 and 4-pot, not to mention hybrids. No way they're going to remove the AMG brand just because they're moving onto EV's, just like how BMW M and Audi RS are still branded on their upcoming EV's.

If you don’t care about the heritage of AMG, sure. They’ve already diluted it a ton.

Totally agree they will keep using the AMG brand.

Bingo!

Although, I have read that some MB owners place fake AMG badges on their cars. I had been wondering why I'd see an AMG badge on an entry level MB. I guess some are legit and some aren't. Either way, they have watered down the product.

There are multiple FWD based AMG cars. The dilution of what an AMG car is has been going on for a while.

i disagree it's dilutions just because it's now on lower end models. What has diluted it is just offering amg (amg sport?) 'trim' packages with no difference otherwise.

But the new amg glb 35 for example is WAY more powerful than the regular glb.

I didn’t say anything about lower end models, but I do think it’s a dilution making AMG models of FWD cars and using 4 cyl engines etc.

An AMG model used to be a very special thing, now it’s just the higher HP trim level of every model, nothing special or low volume or anything like that about it now.

the lower end cars ARE the fwd/4cyl cars so we're saying the same thing.

Ah the good old days... again.

i suspect amg wasn't that profitable in the past (tiny volumes) - but today it's a really important part of mb... just different times.

some of those low end new amg models are faster than those 'used to be' "hand built" old cars. Lol

Being lower end isn't the issue. I have no issue with AMG making versions of the C Class or GLC, etc.

Like I said, they're prioritizing making money in the short term vs building a desirable luxury brand. Long term, its going to destroy the brand because there won't be anything exclusive about it. Do you think Rolls Royce would make a fortune if they came out with a $100,000 car? I bet that one car would replace all their revenue from what they do build...but Rolls Royce would never be the same.

They’re diluting Maybach too.

Great example of this is Maserati. Nothing special at all about a Maserati anymore.
