Tesla unveils Cybertruck
Totally agree - for what it's worth, I don't think it can be considered as "recognized revenue" either way because it's refundable. It's more to show a pipeline of anticipated revenue - I think I remember reading the Model 3 conversion rate (people who put down a pre-order deposit that ended up purchasing) was around 80%.
It at least demonstrates real interest in the truck going against all the expectations from the "experts" and analysts in the industry that were shocked and immediately thought it a failure before the intro was over.
I guarantee you Tesla won't be able to meet demand whatever it turns out to be because it will exceed all expectations. That's not a failure. Meanwhile, Ford, GM, and Ram continually offer massive incentives to buy their trucks. Who's the winner here?

Wait I thought Model 3 will sell that much, what happened?
Problem with truck is that it is not functional, and it is a truck. So hard to get into, hard to get stuff into it too due to those huge sides.
Sure, it is cheaper to build it this way and then everyone applauds Tesla for disregarding functionality and cheapening their production process.

I think people are assuming it can't be functional due to the look but the reality is that there's not much compromise. Level side rails is really it.
From my understanding this piece doesn't have the frame at all instead it's the body that holds it all together. What a odd choice for a vehicle that is expected to carry loads and go through tough explorations cause so far concept of structural steel doesn't have a good record of longevity.

One question no one has seemingly brought up (and I myself didn't think of it until now) is why the Cybertruck is not being introduced at the L.A. Auto show, which is still going on, right now, as I speak? The L.A. Auto Show is enormous, and it would probably be presented to a lot more potential viewers.
Here's Doug Demuro's take on it. I'm more of a fan of Alex Dykes than I am of Doug, but I know some of you like him.
Enjoy.

It’s not being unveiled at a car show because that’s not what he does. It’s not what he does because that’s what everybody else does.
Why do it at a car show when you can pull off an event like that all on your own?

1) why have the distraction of loads of other brands at your own introduction?
2) why pay a ton of money to launch it at an inflated cost location?
3) auto shows don’t matter in terms of numbers of ‘viewers’ because the big numbers are the streamers online (millions and billions)
4) they get to control the message better
