Not too long ago some were strongly arguing with me about this statement. As how common teslas are, I was surrounded by three of them, all different flavors. I also saw a truck like that with two you-know-what flags twice this past two weeks. I wonder if it was the same truck.
I don't think it was me..or hopefully it wasn't me . I never thought the Model 3 or Y was considered a status symbol, and always referred to them as more utilitarian vehicles. Model S and X were once status symbols driven by wealthy tech executives, but not anymore
Not the Model 3 and Y. They are as cheap or cheaper than a Camry, RAV4, and definitely the new Prius. There are way, way too many of them on the road to be a status symbol
What happened? Model 3s are not or at least were not as cheap as a Toyota.
Then why did they improve the suspension on MY? Is it not considered making it more luxurious? What about ambient light? I guess they learned their "ambient" light could be improved and be more luxurious? Right now, their prices are fairly cheap, and they don't have competition. But when there are, they will have to introduce new things to keep their business going the way they want.
They improved the suspension on the Model Y because it was BAD. It was rough, unrefined, and generally not pleasant and they didn’t stop hearing about it from journalists and customers.
They improved the suspension on Model 3 and Y to make them more tolerable and appropriate for the types of vehicles that they are, their goal wasn’t to make it luxurious.
Adding little strips of ambient light is very welcome, I love ambient lighting, but it’s nowhere near the level of ambient lighting coming from any of the Germans, especially Mercedes.

I agree. I don't think going luxury is in the Tesla roadmap. Improving quality, efficiency and refining the building process would be more in line with their business

Yes, Tesla is in the business of improving their cars and making them better, which is exactly what they’re doing.
I was specifically framing it that way because where I live, Tesla's dominate, so I was pointing out that because they have become like Camry's, they are not status symbols here, but mainstream cars.
you didn't specify there, you wrote generally "There are way, way too many of them on the road to be a status symbol". WHERE YOU ARE. other places, likely not.
i have never considered tesla to be a luxury vehicle. a novelty? sure. shiny new thing? yes. distinctive silent missile? yup. but luxurious? absolutely not.
now it's progressing beyond those things as people see practicality, utility, running cost savings, etc., and of course tesla's massive price cuts are the biggest reason they're going more mainstream.

same can be said about california. or any place really. i don't care for the running of the bulls in spain for example.
but this thread is about Mercedes and EQS (and presumably EQS SUV also) which are definitely luxurious. excellent air suspension. very cushy seats with massaging. amazing audio and safety systems. excellent build quality. 3 pointed star.

I'm in total agreement, if you are looking for a Luxury vehicle, than run from Tesla. That was my point, it's the new Camry/Rav4. But way more awesome
California when I last checked, is part of America. I was including California in that very general statement . When I say Americans do strange stuff, I'm not leaving Cali out of the fun
There's a cute little dessert shack thing near us which is in a pretty rough gravel parking lot. I've gone a couple times now, each time I go I always raise the suspension. You can do this two ways:
The first would be to just press the "Raise Vehicle" button in whatever drive mode you're in.
The second way is to change your drive mode to Off-Road. This automatically raises the suspension BUT it differs in that it makes it SUPER stiff instantly. I think Off-Road mode instantly locks the dampers into their firmest setting and it doesn't allow the suspension to compress, it keeps it very rigid and keeps the suspension fully extended. It doesn't allow any suspension compression whereas just raising it in comfort mode does.
Just raising it without selecting Off-Road mode allows for more wheel/suspension movement. It's much more comfortable, but if you're actually doing more hardcore stuff, you definitely want Off-Road mode to keep the car from scraping/bottoming out on anything. I just think it's so cool that it can go from a comfy cruiser one second to a pretty capable off-roader at the touch of a button.
Here's what the Off-Road screens look like, really cool info here. One of my favorite parts is that it shows you the suspension data and wheel position in real time.
EQS has 212 days of supply if you want one should be able to get a great deal.
You have to stop being so negative on non Tesla EV's. Without competition, Tesla just becomes Toyota, who virtually had no competition after eating the lunches of GM, Ford and everyone else through the 80's, 90's and most of the 2000's

I'm the one being negative and not all the people that caused high days of inventory? Interesting perspective.
