So speaking of the EQS... Mercedes says the EQS SUV only has 7 airbags standard, with 9 available as an option (the extra 2 are rear seat side airbags).

So according to Mercedes, that would be:
  • 2 front airbags
  • 2 front side airbags
  • 2 side curtain airbags
  • 1 side airbag in between the front passengers

But they just posted this video of an EQA vs an EQS SUV Crash Test which showed the EQS actually has a driver's knee airbag, so that would make it 8 airbags, not 7.

So I just went out to mine and looked, I do in fact have a driver's knee airbag but I looked under the dash on the passenger side and there is a knee airbag there too!

So my conclusion is that Mercedes is completely incorrect in advertising the # of airbags for the EQS SUV. They say it has 7 standard with 2 optional for a total of 9 but this is wrong. There are actually 9 standard airbags with 2 optional for a total of 11. So strange that they've been sharing the wrong information this whole time about this...

That's 14 percent of total sales

Overall, though, only about 1 in 9 Mercedes total are sold that are EV.

Tesla currently has the majority of the EV market, Mercedes and BMW just got in only last year. They are also on the high end of pricing, so their total North America sales for Q3 is 90,011 (Tesla's Q3 was 435,059), so 14 percent of sales and 284 percent growth in EV sales in only one year is not bad! Mercedes and other automakers have a long way to catch up, and with being on the high end of pricing, it's going to take longer

My prediction is that the Germans are going to do whatever it takes to beat Tesla, at least for pulling high end customers of Model X, S and Y. The EQS is already attracting X and Y customers looking for more luxury and a more refined ride. Tell me that ain't so @signdetres

Yes I would say so. They made A LOT of updates to the EQS sedan and SUV just for the next model year when normally they'd wait for a facelift. The 23s were already great cars and now the 24s will be even better. I'd say they're coming pretty hard considering the entire EQ line is really just a stop-gap temporary thing until they start releasing the EVs on their MMA platform. If I'm not mistaken, these will be the ones that are giga casted, 4680s, etc.

I was just saying yesterday to my partner that I wish we could've just gotten a Model S or a Model X and called it a day but they just don't offer enough today whereas the Germans do...

They did make a LOT of updates that should help many of my issues with the car inside.

BMW just broke ground and invested $700 Million on a battery assembly plant in Spartanburg, SC, which will reduce the cost of battery packs. Once Mercedes and BMW get the costs of batteries down, watch out Tesla....

For the sedan, I found this information.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan has seven airbags as standard, however, the Executive Rear Seat Plus Package adds additional rear-seat side airbags for a total of nine.

I also found this interesting regarding the PRE-SAFE System.

Our patented PRE-SAFE system anticipates a collision using a network of sensors. Seatbelts tighten, headrests adjust, and windows close all in a matter of seconds. Newer vehicles even emit pink noise, triggering the inner ear to protect your hearing from the pressure of impact. Disclaimer[3]

PRESAFE® Impulse Side: If you get into a head-on accident or a fender bender in the Bay Area, the front and rear crumple zones help protect you and your passengers. But what about a side impact collision? PRESAFE® Impulse Side was created for this very reason. If the system’s sensors detect impending side impact, a chamber within the front-seat side bolster is activated. The chamber inflates rapidly, moving the passenger toward the center of the vehicle so they’re further away from the door. During inflation, the relative speed between the vehicle’s side structure and the passenger’s torso is also reduced. Curious which vehicles are available with PRESAFE® Impulse Side? This pioneering technology is available on select models like the S-Class, but you can expect to see it introduced to more models in the near future.

The EQS sedan definitely has 9 standard as well (with 11 available as an option). Not sure why they say it only has 7 🤷🏻‍♂️

Just broke ground. Sorry but lol. By the time that factory is at volume production I predict Tesla will be making cells at half the cost.

I never said they would catch up. Tesla will always be ahead...like 10 years ahead. But kings aren't immortal

Nope! The Mercedes EVs aren't selling --virtually at all-- here. They've stopped stocking so many at the dealer here.

Teslas are EVERYWHERE though.

I've seen maybe ONE EV Mercedes? Let me put it this way, I've seen more R129s than Mercedes EVs around my area.

i think it’s more like the other way around— tesla is introducing new luxury features to keep their customers and potential EV customers.
