I like that but I’m hoping for turn at the second light, etc.
So you want to be able to see if you are turning at the next light after the current before you turn or at the next light before you go straight through the current intersection coming up? Am I getting you correct?

I want to hear “At the stop sign, left turn onto Smith Lane”. Then I don’t have to be concerned with street names or the odometer between me and the stopsign. Or light.
It’s like when I’m told to take the 2nd exit on a traffic circle. I don’t have to read street signs nor look at the map until I reach said circle.

I get what you mean. Never thought of it like this. Interesting comment, thanks. I think my Apple maps say "at the traffic light turn" but they do not say anything about the stop sign. I know if you glance at the screen, it says to turn left or turn right and show the intersection layout.
I use Google Maps through CarPlay really because I like the satellite map. Haven't had any issues.
Apple Maps will have more "conversational" voice directions with iOS 13 "Turn at the second light" etc. I don't use voice navigation prompts personally.

Looks cool, but you like a satellite view for driving directions?
My g90 nav can zoom out to show the entire earth... not so useful but very cool. but i really like that as i zoom out to show my state for example i see all the weather patterns overlaid.
Privacy? It doesn't matter which map software you use, if you have a phone in your car, you're being tracked, period.
That is not true. Very easy to turn off location. Very easy to use maps off line. Apple fragments all the data, so they cannot piece together what you are doing. For all the other apps for Apple, what I like is that I can decide how location is used whether it is off or not.

I dont think the G90 has staellite map overlays does it? With Google Maps you can use the satellite map as your everyday map, so driving directions and map always up are displayed on the satellite map.
This is the ordinary navigation map screen without a destination entered:
Apple and Waze don't have a satellite map option. I've found all 3 really project the same routes, same times, and have crowdsourced traffic. Its cool to see the yellow and red at stoplights, thats being reported in real time.

I just really don't care who knows where I am. Apple can know where I am, Google can know where I am, Lexus can know where I am. I'm going to be shown ads anyways, why do I care if they're ads that are targeted based on where I've been? Turning off the location services reduces the utility of the maps and Siri, etc. Not worth it to protect myself from companies knowing where I am.
Even with location services off your phone knows where you are all the time. Its the nature of its cell connection, try calling 911...they know where you are. You're trusting that Apple isnt using that information because you've turned location services off. Its location SERVICES, not "knowing where your location is". They still know, you just get no services based on that location.

Apple does not know where you are when location is off. When you call 911, location services gets pushed ON. This was an IOS12 feature. Stays on for 4hrs I think. I think there are two issues at play, cell phone pinging and app location tracking, i don’t think it is possible to a avoid pinging (only way is to power off) however you can choose what you want to share with your apps on iPhone. Android, I have no idea.

i don't know why anyone turns off location availability to apps, especially on apple when you say they're not doing anything bad with the info. fighting the battle of not being tracked will become harder and harder.
but then you like an old iphone, 3d touch too, old cars.
good luck with that...
on android you can say whether an app has access to location all the time, or only when running and active, or not at all. i typically chose that middle option unless there's a good reason to have it track all the time, like google maps... their timeline feature is awesome, i use it to correlate time spent at clients, where i went, travel distances, etc.
I do not know why you so closed off to someone else's comment.
The system is only activated by an emergency call, transmits the location only to emergency services and deactivates immediately after use. It is typically active for just 30 seconds.
And because this is an Apple feature, your privacy will be protected when you use automatic location sharing for 911 calls. Only the responding 911 center will have access to your location during an emergency call, Apple says, and they won’t be able to use it for non-emergency purposes.
I think it’s naive to think Apple doesn’t know where you are just because you have location services off. They know where you are, what you’re doing on your phone, etc all the time. That data is far too valuable for them to ignore it.
Next iOS upgrade, read your entire software agreement before hitting "I Agree". I bet Apple has the right to do tons of stuff with your data that you think they don't.
