"Professional reviewer" is relative, I love TFL car but they're just guys like you and me who have a YouTube channel.
The ES will not compete with cars like the 5 Series, etc. With those buyers it could be the best driving car in the world its just DOA.
TFL Car guys are way more car guys than 90% of those 5/E/A6 buyers. Unless you are thinking badge, but then again Lexus SUVs with worse handling vs germans compared to where new ES should be, manage to get a much larger share of the pie, so I dont see why ES wont be able to increase its share too... not that it is badly selling now, it is not, it is top selling vehicle too.

The ES sells great, but its much cheaper than those midsized sport sedans, and doesn't sell to the same demographic buyer. You can't assume just because the ES sells well now that they can just move the same vehicle up in price and it will all of a sudden take sales away from cars it never competed with in the first place.
Same is true of the RX, its much cheaper than similarly sized german crossovers, and its not necessarily being cross shopped with vehicles like the X5.

ES is a more competitive car for the US market than a 5, E or GS. Very difficult to convince people in the US that a cheaper ES with a standard V6 and larger cab room is not the better solution than a more expensive GS or E or A6 or 5 series that starts off with a 4 cylinder.
The Avalon also helps with ES sales as it is a naturally car for people to cross shop if you are already in the Toyota brand. The new Avalon is getting excellent reviews.

If I'm able to get over the hurdle of the aesthetics of the front end I might consider the Avalon Touring after the launch and things settle down. Right now the front end is a bit too much for me. Sales probably won't set the world on fire with CUV's and SUV's capturing most of the sales, but it's great to see Toyota sticking with the large sedan for those who still want one.

Have been watching the videos on YouTube...dare I say I think I like it...
How dare you! You're supposed to be upset and criticize the grill! lol It does look nice imo. It's actually a decent step up from the new Camry which my family now has.

I really like it too. Love the taillights and the headlights. I love the aggressive grille. I love how Toyota over the years started with the 4runner now the Camry/Rav4/Avalon are giving grille options to two potential demographics.
I am waiting to see the rear legroom specs. Haven't found it yet. I am a rear legroom snob. I am disappointed that ES has same legroom has my L LS models. Now Accord has 40.3 inches of rear legroom, which is more than my ordered LS500 with 38.9 inches
Regardless of what the dimensions say, the ES does not have as much rear legroom as the LS460L...
I always used to think that. Thought my LS600hL had lot more room in the rear. Then someone at my office showed me specs that said ES had more space than LS
7 series has 44.1 inch rear, and S550 has 43.1 inches rear

As mentioned, the front end is a turn off for me right now but I agree with poster who said it could benefit from a front license plate to break up the blackness a bit. Otherwise it looks nice a nice effort from Toyota.
