Looks like the debut of next gen Avalon isn't too far away.

Judging by the front tire, this things been through some hard miles. Or they could be cheap and reuse old tires.

Just a stretched Camry? Hopefully the new Avalon and new ES have good dynamics and are as fun to drive as the latest Camry.

IMO, the Avalon has always been a stretched Camry. At least our '97 was. Same drive train, just a different body.

Don't worry about it encroaching on the ES. They'll come out with a new one so the $3k-$5k difference will be retained.....

interesting they're benchmarking a KIA cadenza. Never thought korean cars would be the standard for comparison.

2019 ES probably has a 300hp V6

In the U.S., of course (and perhaps some other countries), it gets competition from its own brother Lexus ES....which handily outsells it.


This isn't the 1990s. Kia has made enormous advances in the last 15-20 years, and, today, is turning out some the best products available for the money, especially in exterior/interior hardware, fit/finish, and the solid way they are screwed together. In fact, IMO, cheap lightweight interior plastic hardware was one of the major problems of the last Avalon redesign, for 2014 (along with a too-stiff-ride for most of its typical buyers)...but Toyota addressed at least some of that with the 2016 mid-generation refreshening.

15-20 years is really stretching it; more like 10 years ago when peter schreyer moved over to the hyundai/kia group was when a lot of the improvements we now see in their products, from exterior and interior styling to powertrain enhancements came to fruition.

Yes, I'd say about 10 years or so ago was when Hyundai and Kia products finally got their act together. But, at least from my experience in reviews, the improvements actually started in the late 90s and early 2000s....between 15 and 20 years ago. That was basically what I was referring to. Today, I'm actually more impressed with them, in a number of ways, than I am with Toyota or Honda....the traditional quality-leaders.

Well, considering the 2018 Camry has the 301hp V6... I am expecting to see spy shots of the new ES soon.

I am hoping that this next-generation Avalon has an understated, handsome styling, like the current-generation one has (despite what seems to be some funny sheet metal creases under the camouflage).

Although the Avalon continues to be sold in Canada, it sells in such low numbers that the Avalon Hybrid is not available here.

I am hoping that the next-generation Avalon Hybrid will be available in Canada; that will give me more choices for the replacement of my current ES Hybrid.

jeez Camry making more power than my is300 not only are the civics making me look bad now the cab drivers will be leaving me in the dust...I'm going to have to put a 100 shot on this car soon
