Hey Guys,

Looking for a good deal on a factory extended warranty please for 2013 GS350 F Sport. Can anybody help me out or point me to the right direction please? Thanks in advance and any help is appreciated!

 

I wouldn't buy one, as in I don't think you'd break even on the cost. As a general rule, Lexus cars have a lot fewer problems than the German cars when you start piling the miles on. Only Lexus I'd maybe think about an extended warranty on would be an LS460 or LX570 with the air suspension. And that's only if I planned to keep it A LONG time.

 

Thanks for the insight! I am a bit on the fence about it. I guess my real concern is all the electronics that's on the car. I'm the 2nd owner of my car I got it with 14k miles about 1 year and a half ago and already had to take it into warranty twice. However, both issues were rotor and brake related which there was a factory notice for. Since then though the car has been great! I heard the Navi screen alone is $10k to fix and I guess that's what motivated me to look for piece of mind and if I can get warranty for a good deal then why not but only if it's a good deal ��. Otherwise I guess I'll just roll the dice.

 

The electronics would be the least of my concern. Toyotas/Lexuses are especially reliable when it comes to the electronics. Look around the forums here for the older cars, you won't find lots of issues with nav systems failing, etc. Very reliable cars. I've owned them in the past a long time too, my old 03 ES is still in the family with nearly 190,000 miles and after 14 years everything still works just fine, nav screen and system work fine, etc.

And on an older car, you aren't going to spend $10k on a new nav screen lol, you would buy a remanufactured unit, or a salvage unit, etc.

Right on there!! Every switch, button, dash light, and electronic doo-dad on my 1992 SC still works(well except for the power antenna, those are cursed items on any car). Toyota/Lexus really does use top quality parts for the wiring harness and electronics. As the car ages, there are always people in this forum and businesses who have work arounds for expensive dealership fixes, like there are companies out there that will refurbish the gauge clusters on older model Lexus cars for a reasonable price vs the thousands of dollars the dealer will charge.

 

Would have assumed Lexus do not need them, they are generally rated #1 for reliability?

 

when i had my 2IS, my navigation unit stopped working and had to be completely replaced. that repair alone exceeded the cost of the extended warranty. you just never know -- for me it's peace of mind.

 

But that is really, really a rare occurrence.

That peace of mind is why they make money selling warranties. If they didn't make money, they wouldn't sell them just remember that.

 

yeah, i get it but it's a relatively small price to pay for peace of mind and peace of mind is what i'm after.

that said, the extended warranty that i had on my 2IS wasn't only used on the navigation unit. it was also used when i ran into transmission problems and had to have a solenoid replaced. and finally, the navigation unit failing wasn't a terribly rare occurrence; it affected quite a few 2IS owners/lessees.

 

I doubt that I would get one on a Lexus, but back to the OP's question, if getting one, I'd get it from a state that has no sales tax, or does not charge sales tax to you online. Usually, if you get it locally from your own dealer, there would be sales tax collected. Also, imho online is more competitive. This would be definitely true with BMW.

 

Lexus has severely restricted the consumers ability to purchase warranties out of state...
