Default Extended Warranty at 63K miles

I've recently purchased an 07 GS350 with 63K miles. I contacted the local Lexus dealer on yesterday and they informed me that I could buy an extended warranty even after the factory was expired. Posters on the forum have said otherwise. Could someone shed some light on this for me? Thanks

we'll if lexus is telling you yes i would talk to them. im under the impression that you can only buy a lexus extended warranty while its still under factory warranty (4yrs/50k). they may be referring to a 3rd party warranty. id talk to them.

I bought mine after the factory warranty ran out. I believe the main difference is that it is cheaper if you buy it while the factory warranty is still in effect.

I've been told that you can't buy it when out of the basic warranty. Perhaps they can make exceptions if you pay more and subject the car to an exhaustive inspection to make sure there are no existing problems.

It just doesn't make sense for them to offer it on out of warranty vehicles, otherwise people would be buying warranties to fix existing problems.

I would ask if the warranty is offered by Lexus corporate or by the dealer itself. Pretty significant differences.

AFAIK, you cannot buy Lexus extended warranty once your 4yr/50k mile warranty expires. A warranty offered by the dealer may have different parameters.

Verdict is in: Service dept employee didnt know WTH she was talking about, I cannot get the Lexus warranty. However, the local Lexus dealer does offer a warranty through a company known as EZ Care. He assured me that they would not go bankrupt anytime soon and this is the only 3rd party that the dealership accepts.

He's offering a 3 yr 36k, $100 deduct and nearly bumper to bumper for $2500. Is this worth it? I've never owned a Lexus but I'd love to have that insurance if something were to go wrong. Any advice is appericiated.

Did you get your Valve Spring recall done? Did they extend your powertrain warranty to 6yr/100k? If they did, i wouldnt really want to pay 2500 for a warranty. just my opinion.

I didn't think that it was worth it when I purchased mine. I did not buy my car from a Lexus dealership and it was still under the full manufacturers warranty when I purchased it. The dealer that I purchased my car from had no clue what they were talking about as it pertained to the Lexus warranty. I would invest the $2,500 in something else as that is an awful expensive service agreement.

I believe that the power train warranty on the Lexus is 6 years or 72,000 miles and that is the part of the car that is my main concern as far as major $$$ in repairs. Luckily my cousin is an ASE Certified Master Mechanic and he is really good with Toyota's.

Took her in for the 60K service yesterday, and no problems were reported. Decided against the warranty, thanks for the advice!

$2500 is steep for only 3yrs and you have to see when that 3yrs is actually started. EZ Care is the only one your dealer accepts? i have a 3rd party extended warranty with a different company and i have no problems using it with my dealer. It actually came in handy when my rack and pinion went. sorta paid for itself.

I got a similar email yesterday from my servicing dealer. 3rd party w/ Fidelity offered as the following:

All $0 deductible, miles and time start from date of purchase. They said this was available for any vehicle with less than 75k miles. They will also finance @ 0% for 18 months w/ 10% down.

2yr/24k – $2399.00
3yr/36k – $2899.00
4yr/48k – $3399.00
5yr/60k - $3899.00

anywhere from $780 to $1200 a year and more than I'd be willing to pay for a 3rd party warranty.
