Agreed, lighting has been used by automakers to help make cars more distinct.
I really hated the fact that Mercedes lost the quad headlamp design for the latest E-Class. One night I was driving and saw a silver one on the road. I immediately gave the car more respect when I saw what they did with the headlamps or rather the LED design which pays homage to older E-Classes with it's "quad look"
I still can't believe HIDs/LEDs aren't standard in this class. The 5, A6 and E all have halogens standard.
I kind of agree with you there, but I do know some people specifically chose the halogen lights and don't like the HID. I don't know why, but there are people out there like that. So I guess having a choice is still a good thing. Those that want it pay for it. Those that don't save a little.

I guess choice is always a good thing. I don't know who would ever prefer HIDs over halogens though lol.
I don't think so. Every other one I've seen rolling around has halogens. Or at least from what I saw.
Fun fact- those are the standard LED headlights. The other headlight design you see are the upgraded units that swivel, have the adjustable range high beam, etc.
