I'm going to say base under 30 k and if you look at what they are already doing with Azera makes sense they could. But base V8

Add 2k to each of these MSRP and you get an idea they can end up doing as they claimed or said another way take Azera SE plus 4k to Genesize it and you are at 29,535.

It will be interesting to see what they actually do.

IMHO there is no way a V8 will come in under 40K unless it is a completely
stripped fictional model you will not be able to get. Remember the LS400
had a base price of 35K in 1989-90 dollars and it was considered a bargain.
Prices have gone way up since then with exploding materials costs. Hyundai
did not develop a V8 and any of the other luxury features in this car for free.

I'd say if they price the V8 at 35K they'd be losing money.

Also, I think it is a bad bad time to be getting into V8 sales. All flagships
(except the 7 series) are down BIG this month and LOL, the much ridiculed
V8 less Honda is the only large automaker who picked up sales

Fact is, V8 sales will be a very, very small part of overall sales. Even the GS460 (even combined with the GS450h) sells only a couple hundred a month.

Here's some '07 sales information on the Azera vs. some other cars that are probably cross-shopped by perspective buyers.

It will be interesting to see how the Genesis does vs. the cars that it will be competeting against. BTW, Azera has been offering $2K-$2.5K cash back offers in this area, not sure about the other guys.

21,948 Azera
82,923 Lucerne
82,867 ES350
72,945 Avalon
34,363 MKZ

There's probably other cars that could be on the list, these just came to mind.

It is an established fact that a fully loaded V8 Genesis will cost over $40k.

You would think, except some people apparently disagree and think a loaded V8 will be less than 40K.

It wouldn't be 'unheard of' because it's like Hyundai to do something like that - but they've already stated a price "in the $40s". So they'd have to go back on that..

Yeah but the GS460 and GS450h are around $60K!

From another forum:

Side-by-side, the Genesis really does not look that much more expensive. It certainly does NOT look like a 60K vehicle, or that it competes with 60K vehicles, like Hyundai is boasting.

I stated my opinion earlier on the body moldings on the Genesis, and this picture is a perfect example. I think the Genesis really looks cheap and tacky, and almost looks on-par with the Azera mostly because of the moldings. In fact one can argue the Azera has more pronounced character lines on the front end and thus looks more aggressive.

That's your opinion.

Tacky and cheap from your observation of PHOTOS. Please go and take a look at the car first IN PERSON and then go on about the cheap and tackiness.

Because if this car is a step-up from the Azera and Sonata, I can almost guarantee you that the car will not feel cheap because neither of its smaller siblings do. (Yes. I've been in both cars and taken a close look at the details)

No, carguy said V8 sales are likely to be a very small part of the picture like GS sales - it wasn't a direct comparison of the vehicles.

Well I can almost guarantee it will have more TRUNK SPACE!

That looks good to me and makes the Azera seem blah in comparison and I am actually a fan of the Azera styling, especially from the rear.

First side moldings aren't even visible in that pic with the Azera. And I think the Genesis looks WAAAAAAAAAY better than the Azera in that pic.

As for the moldings though are you talking about the tiny thin strips lower on the doors here? If so, I don't know what you mean by saying they're cheap and tacky.

I guess everyone has their own view of what looks good, what looks expensive and so forth. From these pics, I think it has more presence than the Lexus GS which is kind of a soft looking car. I also think it looks very European like a BMW 5 series. In fact, slap a BMW 550 badge on it and I'd call it a great 5 series replacement.

The Genesis could very well turn out to be a piece of crap and cheap, but it doesn't look it too me in the pictures. It looks as upscale and more upscale than a lot of luxury cars out today from everyone, Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes.
