No charging at my destination. Closest Supercharger is 30 miles away.

Point is, more range solves these concerns.

Then that's going to be a problem even with 400 miles of range.

Back when I had diesel trucks I thought it was bad enough driving all over in a strange town and going several miles out of my way to hunt down diesel fuel.

Can't imagine driving 30 miles to juice up(while on vacation). Lol

But, just like cable tv, the ev infrastructure will eventually get to the most remote places someday.

I thought you have access to level 2 charging at this location?

But so can experience. You're planning this trip using a large, relatively unaerodynamic and relatively inefficient vehicle. Which is all fine, as it's still a great EV. But experience will tell you that if you are going for max range the trick is to find the sweet spot between range and speed. The Vistiq is actually quite good, but it's still going to have to overcome aerodynamic drag that squares with speed. So you might find lowering planned speed just a few MPH will actually get you to your destination faster because it will give you the efficiency boost that saves or shortens stops.

overall, I reckon you'd get this to work the way you want it to. But do be careful with apps like ABRP because it is set up out of the box to deliver an almost worst-case result.

i believe his cousin has a dryer outlet in the garage? if so, no reason not to use it.

ah, now that's something i didn't know... i'm sure if you drove a tz up everest you'd only get 50mi. range on a full charge.

in your abrp map posts, you show how the r1s is better. no doubt, but your wife doesn't want it so assume it's off the table.

r1s dual max pack is $100k
tz is predicted to be $70-90k.

doesn't matter which one though, if you must drive them at 80+mph, range will be cratered.

I find it useful for initial planning for any new trip I've not done before while on my phone/at my desk. That's it - I don't "depend" on it for anything other than getting an initial idea of the number of charging stops and locations.

The literal "rubber" only "hits the road" when I'm actually driving on the said trip.

EV range anxiety from people that don't own an EV has become the most beaten to death topic on CL. Sorry motor oil discussions you've been bested.

Toyota and Lexus were late to the game with EV's.
They had a disastrous start to EV's back in 2023 with bZ and RZ so far behind.
Now, at midlife refresh, the bZ and RZ are far more competent; so too all new 8ES and TZ.
Everything takes time, so wait 3 years till midlife refresh and the 8ES and TZ will be available in long range.

With Tesla giving up on EV for robots, because EV development too globally competitive now, I suspect that in years to come, TMC will catch up and even possibly be one of the leading front runners in battery technology using their huge equity for R&D budgets.

It basically seems that most everyone is concerned with having to use the public charging infrastructure, which leaves a lot to be desired. No matter how much EV advocates try to convince you to inconvenience yourself, it is wise to stay away from EVs that have less range than your regular trips.

Not really in this case. The infrastructure is there. It's about one extra stop for 11 minutes a couple of times a year. But if you think charging at home is a huge convenience the other 99% of the time, and that the EV driving experience is far superior, and you really want to stick with the Lexus brand, it seems like a very minor inconvenience for all you gain.

How do people live with the pain of charging their phones?

”most everyone” who’s never owned an ev.

agreed if one expects to drive 300+ miles at 80+mph, elevate over half a mile, and would rather not stop at all.

This is so fcking ridiculous, lol.

Trying to reason with EV advocates is a lot like owning an EV, it involves subjecting yourself to a bit of masochism.

I 1000% agree that range anxiety is crippling to the mind anyone with even a hint of reservation about EVs, go out and buy the biggest gas car with the biggest tank you can find. No more stress.
