.."A sedan is a passenger car with a "three-box" design, featuring separate compartments for the engine, passengers, and a distinct, enclosed trunk.
Not today's sedans.....they are anything BUT traditional three-box designs. Typically, they are jelly-bean-shaped, with Humpback-Whale rooflines and the tiny trunk-lids those rooflines produce.

GM made a terrible design with the non defeatable start-stop feature

The V8 wouldn't have made any difference. There just aren't enough buyers in this segment anymore to support more than the S and 7 Series. The A8 is just as bad off, or worse...

They are still 3 box design. Three distinct spaces, they are just styled in a smoother more aerodynamic way.

Lack of V8 became a problem because it turned out to be just a byproduct of bad decisions in other areas. One of the things that killed LS was it not being in 21st century when it comes to technology inside the cabin, it was way too old-school and old-school guys want old-school stuff like V8, see. Like defunct XJ designers, the designers of LS thought new updated exterior look would attract different buyers on its own. And it did. Problem is they were never the buyers they were just the bystanders who didn't have money for new LS. So once again LS was there for the old-school cause it didn't give enough of what new money wanted. New money wanted new looks (which it got) and new gizmos and latest tech across the board which it never got because it was never considered in the first place.
I am surprised the LS lasted this long given how poor the sales have been for so many years. It was such a legendary car from the start to around 2007 when it became bloated and laden with tech instead of quality and durability. The 07+ was innovative in it could self parallel park but it could not go a literal million miles without the engine being opened up for repairs like the older ones could. Dropping the V8 into the current car would have improved things a bit but not enough to save the LS. They should have done the V8 in the final edition 2026 models and raised the price to $130K. It would be a very collectible car that would be remarkable instead of making a quiet exit where 99% of the public will not even realize the LS is gone because you never see them out in the wild.
Personally since I don't keep cars for a million miles, I don't really care whether it can go a million miles or not. The LS needed to be competitive in the segment and it just wasn't.
If you drove a pristine LS430 for two weeks, and are fine with no tech, you wouldn’t want to give the keys back. The car will quickly grow on you.
It’ll cruise at 100MPH with the best of them.
I had a brand new one and it never really grew on me, and it was a UL that had all the tech. My Dad and I just both preferred the LS400. We just never really loved the way they looked inside or out. Ride and drive wasn't the problem, although it wasn't as dynamic as the 400 either.
When his lease on the 98 was up the LS430 was just out and he actually bought the 98 out and kept it because he liked it better. He traded it on the 04 because it had 170k miles at that point and was starting to show its age, the starter needed to be done and the air suspension was starting to lose pressure overnight.
I'd rather have a 300k capable car that's competitive on other fronts than a million mile melatonin-mobile that is the LS430
I’m with you!!

I gave the keys back to my LS460 after only 9k miles. It did feel pretty stable at high speeds. Loved it but wasn’t in love with it. Moved on to a 2.0T😏 that I’ll probably never get rid of!!
Yeah but you're also a race car driver and LSs were never known to get your pulse going...
That said, there is nothing that I've ever been in at least that beats an LS430 for comfort and refinement for just tooling around in comfort and isolation, including the 460.
I just think it sucks it's gone even though I get why.
What is now Lexus' nicest sedan?? Seriously asking..
In other news that S Class seller got back to me and seems very motivated. He said it runs well. I asked him to video of it starting up, idling, and giving it some gas. If it does that fine I’ll go look at it tomorrow.
