Lexus LS - Discontinued
Yeah I have no idea what would be next for us. If something happened to my GS (no plans to part with it), I'm not sure who I would go to for a new sedan. I'm not getting an ES. I don't care for the new BMW 5 Series or the MB E-Class. I'd maybe look at the A6, or just find a used GS-F.
My wife wants something new, but she wants a CUV smaller than her current Highlander. I wanted her to get an X3 but I am really struggling with the new ones. I just don't know... We'll just hang tight for now.
Bringing it back to the LS, I have been paying more attention lately to the LS460s rolling around town. The more I look at them, the better they look. I like the presence of them more than the LS500. I wouldn't buy one, but I do appreciate the style of them more than I did when they were current. Guess I'm getting old.

I ultimately think I will end up in an LS500 even though I much prefer a V8. It's hard to find a certified LS here in the LA area + here in Southern California, the LS seems to bring a higher price than anywhere else in the country, so may need to expand my search outside of the area.
the lc500 (launched late 2017 as a 2018) was an impressive accomplishment and a one of a kind design and beautiful build quality.
but yeah, apart from that... pretty weak, but they sell mostly to people who upgrade from toyota so the 'excitement' bar is very low, lol.
but they know what they're doing and still sell a ton of cars very profitably. just not many to enthusiasts.

I agree, they do sell tons of cars, and I guess from a business stand point they are not doing too bad. But for enthusiasts and anybody who appreciates cars, lack of invasions is forcing some folks to switch brands.
I'd love to go back to Lexus someday though!
I was leaving my gym yesterday and facing a Lexus sedan. I tried to see if I could tell which car it was. I thought it was an LS but it's an ES. I don't own either and I'm sure if you own one or the other, you would be able to tell them apart. But for someone like me (I think) I know enough about Lexus and cars in general... I failed the identification test. And I think this is part of the reasons why LS failed. They made the ES too good for the money.
LC500 is a beauty, a poor man's LFA as I would call it. It's probably the only sedan from Lexus that I would be interested in.

I've never purchased an used car in my life; not even a demo.
Yesterday, I test drove a 2007 LS460 with low mileage.
So conservatively simple, neat and handsome.
A little roomier than my 4GS, but no match for S Class nor Motorola's beloved Geneses for space.
While I normally do simple U-turns, immediately I got caught out with LS460's 3-point turn in the middle of the road with embarrassment as onlookers watched.
This 4LS was the smoothest and quietest car I have ever driven.
It has near perfect idle, and in near silence too - my 3.5 & 4GS's cannot match.
Plenty of bottom end torque too.
It was very well equipped.
Vehicle in very good condition.
These days, my thinking has changed.
I can forgive the maneuversbility.
I don't throw the vehicles around any longer.
I don't worry about fuel economy any more.
These days, my mileage is so low.
Yet I'm more sensitive than ever to smoothness and quietness.
Just looking out for suspension arm and radiator faults in LS460.
I think so bad for Akio to design a sporty-type of vehicle in LS500, resulting in low sales, and then axe the LS range on grounds that sedans are not selling.
I noticed that too but I questioned myself and did a search for its definition. Lol
..."A sedan is a passenger car with a "three-box" design, featuring separate compartments for the engine, passengers, and a distinct, enclosed trunk. Typically, sedans have four doors and are designed for passenger comfort, offering a smooth ride, quiet cabin due to the isolated trunk, and good handling."
LC seems to fit this definition.
