Fancy door handles that are slow and get stuck doesn't scream daily practicality to me, same with the Range Rover ripoff looks.
Plus if it sucks to drive that makes it all the worse you are suffering the day to day AND the car is boring.
The outgoing Telluride is very nice to drive, I’m sure this will be too. You don’t think soccer moms want their car to look like a Range Rover? They definitely do.
What’s funny is the new Palisade kind of looks like the last gen Range Rover and the Telluride looks like the new one.

That's fair, the RR is THE ultimate suburban soccer mom object of desire lol!
I was totally unimpressed with how the old one drove but my standards are warped as hell I guess. Probably doesn't help that even my old SUVs are more serious platforms with the WJ, T-reg, and XC90, I also never liked our RXs....so it's probably just me.

Its a transverse FWD crossover, its limited as to how "impressive" it will be. Its a nice riding, comfortable and quiet family hauler and thats all people want.

And, in the Land Rover line, you don't necessarily have to get the top-line RR to have those nice road-manners. I remember the last time I drove a new four-door Defender, several years ago. It was remarkably refined on dry pavement (didn't drive it off-road), although its dirt-resistant / easy-to-clean interior, of course, did not have the plushness of a RR.

The active suspension is transformative though and you only get it on the top two models

I was describing the Telluride not a Land Rover...Land Rovers all do drive great but thats expected given the price point and how sophisticated they are. Buyers have higher expectations of a vehicle at that price point than they do something like the Telluride.
Somebody said Amd is like Scotty Kilmer after a lobotomy. That’s pretty accurate…
He also likes what he likes, and he presents everything through the lens of what he likes. If you watch him talk about a Toyota built before 2008 for example he will wax poetically about the exact same kinds of things he complains about in something newer or something from a different manufacturer. Anybody who spends $40,000 restoring a 600k mile LS430…you know what he likes. He also has a propensity to present things as being from his direct experience where he’s just not correct. His background is clearly in Toyota and Lexus products, I have a mechanic like him and he would be the first person to tell you that he doesn’t know much about say, German or British cars.

A friend's wife just traded her X5 in on a Santa Fe because it's cheaper and has that "range rover look". She doesn't give a damn about the mechanical differences between the Santa Fe and a Range Rover, just that it has the styling and leather seats. Also, much cheaper.
Hes a mechanic, and hes publishing his own opinion of the s class. Im not dinging him for doing what social media university does best, publish opinion pieces for entertainment. I understand the greater takeaway from his video though, luxury marques are cheapening products. I wonder if this problem exists in higher priced versions like the maybach or manufaktur versions of the s class?

Congratulations to her. I hope she enjoys it..
Although styling is not necessarily the chief factor in my choice of the vehicle, in general, I agree with your friend's wife. The Santa Fe is a far better value for the money than the far more expensive X5. Bitkahuna recently had a Santa Fe (the Calligraphy version), and, from what I could tell from his posts, was very pleased with it.
Notice the unusual "H"-shaped turn-signals around the headlights? That appears to be a relatively new Hyundai styling feature.

The build quality issues exist all the same. Obviously the interior is more special feeling in better spec's than what he had there.

Depends on what you value. The Santa Fe lacks very important things to me, so for me the X5 is a better value. Something isn't a better value if its less for less, thats just less. If all you want is a comfortable vehicle with space to drive around in and you don't care about powertrain, suspension, ride, technology dynamics or performance then yeah the Santa Fe is a better value.
