Most people don’t have cars with 48v systems.

But I do enjoy my car and I’m not annoyed by it…

I hated it before 48v but it really is a non issue with the 48v system. It’s honestly really nice sitting at a light with no engine running. Same thing as a hybrid.

Its the constant stopping and starting of the stop and go traffic that makes it annoying, regular driving its really no issue.

Agreed.

Pretty sure in Sport mode it wont do it on the BMW...
I will try sport mode tomorrow. I don’t drive it often enough to remember to do it. In the PHEV Rav I had a routine: start, sport mode, seatbelt.

I have my S580 coded to start in individual which I had set as everything comfort but sport engine. I have recently been driving it in all comfort and kind of like it better.

In sport on the Mercedes it doesn’t shut the engine off until you are stopped and have been for a couple seconds, vs comfort where it turns it off before you come to a stop. It’s even less noticeable in comfort. In Eco mode it will kill the engine at speed when there isn’t much load. I may try that some tomorrow on my way to WV and see if it will coast down all the highway grades.

As an example of how I kinda like the start stop with the 48v system, I had it coded and told him not to code it off.

I can't believvvvvveeee how off I was about start/stop. Not only did I assume it would be imperceptible on everything, I also assumed that HVAC stayed on and completely the same as if the car were running. I guess I just assumed the tech was there.

Uhh, no.

What you describe is the case with a 48v system. Without that yeah the AC is compromised etc.

Wish could code on the later model BMWs. Only coding these days BMW allows owners to do is the code on the back of your CC for the service repair bill. 🙃

A/C still blows out of the Yukon but it changes, the fan does. Then it will cycle once the A/C stops cutting it.

Not that I ever leave it on long enough, lol. I'm finally used to hitting the button every drive, but I get also why you coded your last one. It's annoying to turn off every time regardless.

But they would not have agreed to it if it made starter failure substantially more likely because it would increase warranty claims.

agreed, it’s not about any one of us, it’s about all of us - a point I made upthread.

For illustrative context, per the most recent consumption data the US consumed just over 137 billion gallons of gasoline in 2023. If the consumers of that gasoline had collectively been 5% more efficient the potential savings would have been just under 7 billion gallons. Obviously a lot more nuanced than that, but it illustrates the point that a little at the individual level amounts to a lot in the aggregate.

what a terrible experience

It's annoying to turn off every time regardless
the Buick lacrosse, General Motors make made it non-defeatable. so it had some owners roll stopping at stop signs so it wouldn’t turn off

True, but some people don't drive much.

Others drive and fly all over the world and use more gas than all of us. lol

I’m at Disney and my rental is a Subaru Outback. I defeat stop/start right away. It’s so hot and humid that once I’m stopped for even 30 seconds the a/c blows warm air since our trips are so short and the car isn’t cool. It’s very noticeable and not good for Florida weather.

Orlando in July/August is rough. I think there's a lot of rain headed your way. Maybe a tiny bit of relief, but dew points will be in the high 70's.

I know geko mentioned his M3 has auto stop/start which really surprised me because it's stick. I think he said it's actually quite smooth.

I think if I ever had a vehicle with this tech, it would have to 48v mild hybrid setup.
