lol yes of course, we can shoot anywhere on the ground randomly and oil bubbles up. See post in General Car Conversation I'm giving Toyota crap for becoming a soulless bore but at least you can depend on them.

In this thread, I'll somehow take heat for this, but...

I saw my parents this weekend. They own a 2019 RAV4 Limited Hybrid. I quite like it.

I asked them if they had seen the new RAV4 and they said yes, and that they like it. I asked if they're going to get one, and my mom said no, that they LOVE their RAV4 and don't want to replace it.

By the way, they moved from another brand's compact SUV (Kia Sportage V6) to the RAV4, so it's not like they just defaulted to the RAV4. They've owned numerous 4 cylinder cars, but also V6s and V8s. They're not ignorant and they don't just "put up with" the RAV4. It suits their needs perfectly and they absolutely love it.

Pano roofs that open even better. Both Ravs have them.

not here. Prefer the traditional size with a manual shade, it’s more intimate and personal. But definitely respect the pano for those that like them.

We're big pano roof fans. Our Highlander has it. We had to wait and get it on a dealer trade to find one with it. No regrets. There's a power shade we could close if needed, but honestly, I think the last time we used it was when we bought it, to ensure it works. We leave it open all of the time. I'd have it in every car I own if I could. But understand that I don't live in a super warm climate, and our winters are so dark and gray that any extra light the roof can provide is totally welcome. My sister in law, in Florida, has a Highlander too, and she opted against the pano roof because it wasn't worth it with the heat and the amount of time they'd have to leave it closed.

39.5mpg on highway on that 460 mile journey. Cruise was set to 83mph. Had 120 miles of range left not including the 2.2 gallons of reserve after the 460 mile roundtrip.

Wife and kids love the pano roof and a lot of times leave the shade open. On the X7 even the 3rd row has its own roof. But here in the south on those warm days definitely close the shades.

Sure. What I meant was - gruff engine and coarse sound is something you get to accept due to other things you like about Rav4.

I thought XA50 - 5th gen is way nicer vehicle than 4th gen, but i would be remiss if I didnt say that when i test drove it in 2019, i didnt like the way engine sounded despite me being a big fan of hybrids. That and multimedia system at the time were big issues, in otherwise much improved vehicle. Us Europeans had diesel options prior to that and nobody would have bought gas-only engine due to consumption + bad resale due to the same.

But yes, i agree with you. Reason it became best selling vehicle worldwide is because it hits the mark for most people, it is not something sheep decide to get as Rav4 was not best selling vehicle prior to that.

exactly, different environments influence the preference for actually opening the roof or even opening the shade. for me in florida, i never use either. i've tried the cool mid-split pano shade maybe once on my ioniq 5 but then closed it and haven't used it since.

funny thing about sheep is they follow other sheep. i know many people who got a RAV4 because their friends/relatives got one, not because it was their best choice. and why (in the u.s. at least) did loads of people get RAV4's and influence others? either consumer reports or prior toyota experience and comfort with the brand and familiarity with the features and operation, plus comfort with the dealers, service, and obviously huge peace of mind about quality and reliability.

nothing wrong with any of this, but my point is i believe a HUGE number of people got 'em because that's what their peers were doing, and they never looked at anything else. most people find comfort in following the herd (flock, lol).

When you call people sheep that’s a negative connotation. We all buy things that we see other people enjoy, that doesn’t make us sheep it shows that we use other people’s satisfaction as a measure of how we may like something.

Case in point you just bought the pressure washer I bought and everybody else was saying was such a great unit for the money, that doesn’t make you a sheep.

People don’t “want what everybody else has” they find comfort in seeing that lots of other people are satisfied with a product.

When I used to track motorcycles, one of my friends had a tundra he used to trailer his bike to the track. Next thing you know 6 more of us all bought Tundras as well to trailer our bikes.

Fast forward 13+ yrs later we all still have our Tundras.

Started out as 1 with BMW S1000RR then 3 others bought same bike. 2 of them I know for a fact bought one because of how fast they saw our other buddies were on them. One guy got smoked so bad one weekend at the track he picked up his new bike 2 days later.

I only sheep on certain things.
For everything else, no sheeping is going on. Lolol

I do my best to maintain low sheeping status. Haha
