I mean around here over half our power bills are just green energy subsidy fees.....it's insane that over 50% of the bill has nothing to do with the actual product.
IIRC... the state of Washington has several major oil refiners, with more refining capacity than all but a handful of states. Crude from Alaska and Canada. Tennessee doesn't have as much refining capacity though we don't have the climate crisis (ahem) taxes as do some states, including Washington, taxing their people to prosperity and clean air.
Damn it's a gorgeous blue sky day here...

Logistically It's way easier to get gas/fuel to TN than WA. There's also something with the Navy being in the Seattle area too, separate lines and priorities...I cant remember now.
Yes, 100% politicians and corporations are mostly to blame. Definitely for my state, IL has a ton of lines through it and is a major hub. Yet our gas prices are always insane.
I'm always interested in how each state taxes gasoline. For most of my life PA was actually #1 but have been surpassed by 3 other states. We're still 4th at 58.7c per gallon. People like me that live close to Delaware always pop down there as it's way cheaper.
New York surprised me. They only tax 24.87c per gallon which ranks 37th.
Top 5 worst are:
CA 70.92c per gallon
IL 66.4c per gallon
WA 59.04c per gallon
PA 58.7c per gallon
IN 54.5c per gallon
Here's the website that tracks gas tax levies back to 2013:

I can't speak to all the logistics involved but for heaven's sake Washington is a net exporter of refined fuels. Surrounding states Oregon, Idaho and Montana all have lower gas prices. Makes a guy wonder if Somalis are in charge!
You just described the over business model of Canada lol.
Ouch, that sucks. Around here the natural gas bills are 80% actual product so any sort of heat pump etc makes ZERO sense economically without getting into how much more expensive the hardware is to top it all off. Plus it fails far more often

See now here. Heat pumps are the way to go, if you have an efficient (modern/modernized) home. My 100 year old joint is rocking boiler heat on nat-gas (I still have a coal chute) I can always burn logs in either of the fireplaces. There's $300 a face-cord worth of wood burning away
Next joint is already being planed out with the future energy ***-hat-tactics in mind.

Not to get too political but Canada has a carbon tax which has zero benefit to what it's supposed to fix. And that tax is on top of other taxes on energy. A quick check says at the pump tax on gas in the U.S. is 17% in Canada 35%.

There is more to steal from the working class on the left coast. Soon, WA will tax their drivers on a per mile basis. I am sure OR and CA aren't far behind. The three of them seem to pride themselves on which one can come up with stupid first.
Cost of living is relevant in this situation. It's way more expensive to live in/around Seattle than in/around Dallas.
Just like it's way more expensive to live in Chicago than Dallas. Only an idiot would think one was better than the other, perks and drawbacks to everything.
all relative to where one lives, no right and no wrongs…neither is better vs the other. Taxes on fuel are used different in different areas for different reasons….

It is just insane how in some states people are getting f'd so badly.
Gas is $2.00 here. Excuse me, $2.08. I don't care and can afford my fuel bill no matter what gas is, but it is nice to not spend nearly $100 to fill up the LX for 200 miles of city range haha.
And think about the less financially-fortune people who drive crap cars that get mileage like the LX or just bad bad mpg, this gives them a huge break which is a great thing. I'm glad this helps them.
People who don't have a choice and who are stuck driving some old truck or something and get no benefit, as opposed to me where the 5.7 is worth 11-12mpg bc it's a great engine in a great truck. I'm not being political either but insane gas prices, it really is like a(nother) tax.

hahahaha HAH!! Can you be more insultingly right…
Stop grouping people as a whole just because they happen to live in those states.
I work hard, pay my taxes, and will gladly pay those gas prices because I LOVE where I live.
No need to get your offensive political drawers in a twist and spew what wrings out of them ☮️
