It's still true.....it's why when I was looking for a TTV8 I only looked at Mercedes, Audi, and Porsche. The BMW have many issues I don't want to deal with even being able to do it myself.

With no hit to reliability.

I do wish I had the V8 rowdiness, but I do have my truck for that.
I would never have a need for more HP than that.
At 400 hp, that would be penty for me. Lol

Heck, 300 hp is plenty for me.

Well to be fair your cars are 15-20 years old, so it would make sense you were concerned about reliability. I would buy a 2025 BMW with a V8 with no concerns.

Nope, I was looking at 5 year old cars at the time. Just old enough to be out of warranty for value reasons and to have a history or lack thereof.

One I bought was under 5 at the time I bought it and under 60k miles, and it has been far worse than the older, bought sight unseen, higher mile 12s somehow....because life is funny like that.

BMWs simply do not do well enough with the V8 to be worth it to me to own them, lots of effort for little return even though they were by far the cheapest options to buy.

More than 5 years old lol. Your youngest car is 10 years old. I'm talking about concerns over buying brand new BMWs with V8 engines that are totally different generations of engines than anything that was made then.

If I was buying a new car and planning on trading it in after a 5 years or sub 70k miles, I wouldn't be concerned with reliability.

More than that, I worry. Lol

Ps, this goes for any car.

100%, it really doesn't matter if like most people who buy these you're going to keep it for 5 years or less.

Read what I said again.

When I bought my first TTV8 it was under 5 years old. I was confident enough with it I didn't buy a warranty even though I had fears over leaving Lexus for reliability reasons. It was also my first air car etc so I had plenty of reason to be cautious...

The current BMW V8s are the same as the ones in 2010 as far as usual issues, they are just newer and haven't broken in the usual ways yet. Valve seals and coolant issues still occur as is normal for BMW V8s

If you go with a BMW V8 get a max warranty and ditch it once you run out.

If BMW made a 3 series with a 5.0L V8 to compete with the IS 500, I'd probably pick the BMW.

Considering they've only ever put a V8 in one M3 (a 4.0L literal race engine) 15 years ago, I definitely wouldn't hold my breath.

It could happen if customers demand it.
I'm writing a letter to BMW today! 🤣
