BMW M340xi
Yep, it and the S85 V10 it was based on. Tolerances were too tight for the very heavy 10W-60 oil they run, especially when people ragged them out before they came to temperature.
Letting the engine fully warm before doing full rips basically avoids the issue, and aftermarket bearings with slightly looser tolerance solves it altogether.

LOL
When I used to track motorcycles, I used to haul my buddies bikes as well and I would point out the gas light and as the DTE counts down to 0 and they would freak out like “man WTF I’m not helping you push”. 3 bikes plus gear in an enclosed trailer there is no pushing. 😆 Tell them don’t worry we’re fine, we will make it!!
Tell you what I used to do when the gas light comes on,
especially on the way to the pump because by that time the tank mpg is what it is. So a couple or few pulls to the pump won’t hurt!! 😁

I don’t think BMW has ever made a great V8 motor. Good ones - yes.
All their GREAT motors are the Inline 6s. The current B58 and S58 are better than the S68.
Same thing with Porsche - their specialty is the Flat 6. I would not go out of my way to get their 4cyl or V8.
I think MB is the one that has the most robust V8 from Germany. Their other engines are not as good though.

@NickL go ahead and pick up a nice equipped 540i, join the CL B58 team and let’s have some fun.
@FrankReynoldsCPA@patgilm I plan on throwing this on by end of the week. I’ll get an DP only dragy run to see what/if any improvement over stock then see what she can do with the DP + JB4 combo. Somehow big turbo kits started populating in my YouTube algorithm recently🫣
what a surprise lol
im sure you will take a Panamera over a GT3 also! 🤷♂️
Again BMW and V8s have never worked.
Even the great S65 motor in E9x M3 was originally a V10 that originated from Motorsport and was in M5/M6 that they converted to V8.
S68 is still very much N63 just upgraded. It doesn’t sound that good either especially for a V8.

Still a V8, inline 6s just don’t excite me. Driving them back to back in the same model I just prefer the way the V8 feels
Actually wouldn’t want a Panamera or a GT3

9k miles 2022 540i fully loaded
Or
34k miles 2021 M550 lightly loaded but has all the options that the 540i does. Does not have dynamic handling or B&W option.
Both are certified.
My comment about the V8 novelty wearing off real quick is because the only time I get to use it is on the on-ramp. Into the traffic. And even if I drive in the suburban roads, there's a cop every bend and downhill.

The V8 isn't about power its about feel. No 6 cyl has the effortless feel or sound of a V8. It just transforms any car IMO. I have never driven any car with a 6 cyl and a V8 option where I drove the V8 and didn't want it over the 6.
