No question the 540i based on what you are looking for.

Both are certified.
My comment about the V8 novelty wearing off real quick is because the only time I get to use it is on the on-ramp. Into the traffic. And even if I drive in the suburban roads, there's a cop every bend and downhill.
I somehow find ways to use my 12s constantly lol! Get the big engine if you have a warranty and don't intend to keep past said warranty, they just feel better

Sounds like your only V8 experience would be on cold starts. That V8 would get old fast drinking fuel sitting in traffic.

I didn’t know the 550 was a mild hybrid. 🫣

The V8 isn't about power its about feel. No 6 cyl has the effortless feel or sound of a V8. It just transforms any car IMO. I have never driven any car with a 6 cyl and a V8 option where I drove the V8 and didn't want it over the 6.
Agreed. This was why I got GSF after the GS350 and now an LC500. And that buttery smooth LS460 V8. Being in traffic in the LS460 was no big deal because the car is so quiet and smooth and comfortable. I just hate to see the 12MPG lol.

Not sure if it is, but it still has default engine stop start. Its about $500 more a year to fuel the 550 vs the 540, its not a huge difference in fuel at all

Modern V8s you will get much better mileage. I get overall average about 20MPG in my S580. Driving 15k miles a year I fill up once a week but its usually 1/2 a tank or so.

Is the M550 a mild hybrid? I never seen or heard it mentioned.

The minor problem I have with the M550 is that it got a bigger engine without a bigger gas tank.

MPG doesn't matter nearly as much as range IMO, I don't care what the economy is as long as I get 500ish miles out of a tank on interstate.

Probably because the work Jeep gets 13.3 I've always considered anything over 20 to be magic. I don't care about traffic MPG as you don't physically move that far so 12-17 mpg in city means you overall will use barely any fuel from short distances vs driving 40 miles each way to work getting 30+

That said I'm still not used to my TDI getting what it does, I keep thinking the fuel gauge is broken

Its like ~ 90 miles less range, not terrible.

Have you checked out one of the BMW forums to see what owners are saying? The various 5 Series forums on Bimmerpost are pretty active. They might give you some additional insights. Good luck on your search and decision..

So I’m not the only one who wants 500 miles on a tank. 😁

Heavy slow moving traffic and that V8 is going to gulp fuel.
