Ha. Step outside in a 15-degree temperature, particularly with a wind blowing, and then tell me that is not Arctic.

The term does not necessarily refer just to geographic areas, but is used to describe bitter cold in general.

That's a helluva lot less combustion chambers...

Problem is, big lazy engines tend to overdeliver MPG especially on the highways.
I think the best we’ve seen in our LX 570 on highway was 19 maybe 20mpg once. Took recent trip in X7 and got 24mpg. I set the cruise at 83-85mph depending on flow of traffic.

I don’t see any charm in paying more for gas than I need to or having to refuel more often personally.

Fuel economy doesn’t really impact my buying decisions, but I don’t look for lower fuel economy lol

I've accepted the low fuel economy that my truck gets relative to a smaller vehicle, but that doesn't mean that I would buy it BECAUSE it gets low fuel economy.

Compare a 540i x-drive to an m550i x-drive, both G30's. They're 100% the same car, except the 540i has the 3.0 inline 6(B58) and the m550i has the 4.4 V8(N63). The 540i gets far better fuel economy.

i see a charm in my E-class using way more fuel than one would expect lol... externally i appear sensible and responsible with my inconspicuous and quiet sedan, despite essentially getting land cruiser MPGs just for the sake of having a much more powerful engine than is needed

This was one of the deciding factors for our Q7. The 2.0T and 3.0T get exactly the same fuel economy, both city and highway. That told me 2.5 tons is too much for the 4-cylinder to drag around.

That sounds logical to me. 🏆
I have seen this in small trucks.

Pulling a small 1000lb trailer every day, upgrade to V6 and get better mileage.

The 4 cylinder is working way to hard.

Unless I'm mistaken thats not your daily car that you put a lot of miles on.

I just don't understand why anybody would WANT their vehicle to get poor fuel economy. Like you would look at two similar vehicles and choose the one simply because it gets lower fuel economy. I can certainly understand getting the car you want and not caring that it gets lower economy, because I do that, but I don't pull into the gas station and see the pump click over $100 and say "Yes!". Its like getting your electric bill and going "yeah! this is the highest one I have ever had!". Weird.

I agree that can be a head-scratcher for most people, most of the time. But there are some possible reasons, mostly of a political nature which we cannot discuss here,

oh yea like 90% of its use is just taking it out once a week on the highway at midnight, assuming it's good weather of course lol

just to be clear i'm not saying i like it because it uses a lot of fuel, just that it makes me giggly how solely in the pursuit of speed mercedes put an engine so big in a car the size of a camry that it manages to get full size SUV levels of consumption... yet everyone is none the wiser :)

I don’t think people want poor fuel economy with their Toyota or Lexus body on frame trucks or SUVs. What is awesome about Toyota/Lexus of the past is that Toyota was unapologetic in their fuel economy efforts and instead tried to make the best body on frame SUV that is also the longest lasting. Start stop, hybrid electric motors making noises, heavy batteries and additional maintenance of the new generation is what is off putting. It was also nice that the LX570 is using an engine that is not sitting in a car. You got something exclusive. I have heard the reviews the new 3.5TT in the LX600 sounds coarse. I have read the Land Crusier hybrid max makes for some very unrefined starting and stopping driving experiences …all issues that I don’t have to deal with.

Toyota Sequoia disaster.

Toyota home run

that is impressively low haha... what could it do if you really tried though? here's about the best i've ever gotten, and this includes cheating a bit by hitting reset when already up to speed and taking this pic after i had already coasted to a stop
