Oh God you've been blessed. It's a God awful car, my friend had one, and it was bad even for 90's standards
It was a car that was designed in the early 80s and built on the Escort platform. So yeah, it was pretty crude by 90s standards. Lol. It also bore resemblance to the 1988-1994 Lincoln Continental with its upright back window.
The Tempo/Topaz was replaced by the European designed Mondeo/Contour/Mystique in 1994. Much superior cars, but were poorly received in America for having a tight backseat and a price that wasn’t much lower than the Taurus.

I see, in truth the oldest things I've ever really seen/worked on are later 90s/OBD2 at minimum. I'm not old enough to have seen cars like that one haha!
Heck, my personal Jeep is older than almost everything I see these days
Even when we were poor students, we were embarrassed to be seen in a Topaz/Tempo. No nostalgia here
Lol I mean nostalgia about the period.....
There were some excellent, excellent cars then but in general cheap American cars were just rolling junk piles. Tempos were the biggest POSs in just about every way.
When I was a kid, my best friend’s mom had a Tempo sedan in 4WD! I remember riding in it one time when his mom said something to the effect of “every time I start to like this car, something else goes wrong with it.” They traded it for a Mazda 626 and were much happier.

Yeah, I don't know if I want to go back to the Vanilla Ice erra, although it was a simpler time
I rode in one at 90 MPH down a twisty country road at 1AM driven by my drunk and high cousin wearing a flame retardant suit covered in kerosene when I was 10...thats a story lol

Right.....However as someone who does remember-- in the early 90s Lexus was out and blowing everyone away with the quality and luxury and had just introduced the SC coupe, Infiniti had a few pretty good cars like the J30 and Q45. Mercedes were still made like overbuilt safes, all of them. BMWs drove the old way. Acura had the NSX which beat Ferraris around the track yet were as reliable as any Honda.
Trucks weren't as cool that's for sure and SUVs pretty much non-existent. American made vehicles have come a lonnnnnnnng way since then. Other than a couple Cadillacs, the newer ones, there was nothing from America I really liked in the early 90s.
Finally got the S580 cleaned up tonight. Sheesh. I ran it through the touchless wash and then did a rinsless bucket wash in the garage. Looks good. Its cold enough that the snow isn't melting so it may be clean for a day...

Wow, I have no story that can match that. And I grew up in LA 🤣
