Probably the most UN-Buick ever built....along with the 2-seat Reatta. The only reason Buick built the Grand National and GNX, like with the 60s-vintage GS (Gran-Sport) muscle-coupes, was to show the world that it could, if needed, compete in that field. But muscle-cars were never really Buick's forte, and (I hope) never will be. Their primary mission is upmarket comfort/semi-luxury.
Yep....too loud for me, too.
Actually Buick has a long history of making muscle cars.
@AJT123 probably wouldn’t drive it because it doesn’t have a V8😆
!
Oh it's got the 3800 (before it was officially called that) though. Huge fan. I'd drive a car with a late 3800 today over virtually any 2.0t and not think twice. You could get 30mpg with them and still have good ole American grunt down low.
Ive only taken one of my cars to that track years ago and not the Plaid or GTR. I used to go up there to watch test and tune on Friday nights with some friends and we would just drink and watch and laugh at some of the cars up there from real drag cars to kids who would bring their parents wagon or minivan up there. Used to even see a semi without its trailer run.
I do have a Draggy that I’ve used when I had my M340 when I was modding to see what the gains were but I haven’t tried it out on the Plaid or GTR yet.

Though the 403 V8 did appear in several Buick products, it was technically an Oldsmobile engine, and ended production in 1979. It also made an incredible.....185hp.
The last true Buick V8 was a 350 that ended production in 1980. The 231 V6 in the Grand National and the legendary 3800 V6 are both direct descendents of this engine.
pretty sure it was like a $9,000 option to begin with so i'd assume so lol... it was removed from the GLE after only a year or so but still available on the GLS

.
Uncle Sam ruined engines back then, too. It was choked with emissions bullshyyyt, late 70s gas crunch, etc. Unmolested that motor made a HELLUVALOT more than 185hp.

Only if you believe that emissions are imaginary. As much as it sucked for power while they figured things out, it's undeniable that those regulations improved air quality.
