The steering wheel wasn't that bad in the ones I've seen but yes, Saturn ION was pretty awful.

Even Saturn fans shunned the ion. And it had a CVT…. It was a dud.

I agree with you. The fact that we’re all talking about and everyone has an opinion. It’s certainly not boring

Hmmm, I really don't like the gauges in the center of that dash.

it’s because Mercedes put an oval shaped rear window on it. It clashes with the square roofline.

I see what you are referring to now. I don’t like

A number of vehicles have used that design at one time or another. Toyota Echo, Scion xA/xB/xD, Nissan Quest, Saturn Ion, and Panos Esperante, to name a few right off the top of my head. And, of course, the Mini Coopers and their large center-dash circular speedometer.

I'm seeing tons of w204's with tacky ghetto aesthetics these days.

On the Mini Cooper there were two ways to move the speedo back in front of the driver. The most common one was to order navigation, which went in the giant circle in the center stack. The other, which was relatively rare and I only discovered recently, was to order the chrono pack. This gave you a really beautifully laid-out set of auxillary gauges:

The overall look was great:
