Both BMW and MB I6 are no doubt nice and super efficient.

Now in the C Class and GLC the 4 cyl feels good, its just not suited for the higher end GLE and E Class.
Drive the same GLE or E Class with the I6 and its a much, much better experience. How many 4 cyl GLEs and E Classes have you driven?
"More than adequate" in a $70-80,000 Mercedes? I want better than "more than adequate"
The key is reference point. If you have the right reference point/expectation, MB I4 is more than adequate. Take RX for example… it starts 50-70s. The GLE350 starts at 61. If RX sells, the GLE350 is definitely more than adequate. Not everyone buys/can afford expensive benz but many want the badge. If gla makes sense/sells, you bet gle would.

I'm not saying people won't buy them, they will. People don't know any better. Doesn't change the fact that I think those cars feel terrible with the 4 cyl.

Right, people buy what isnt a great product just to get the badge. Its sad to watch companies like Mercedes (and Lexus) leaning into that. Ultimately that diminishes the brand.
It’s not about driving fast, it’s about the feel of the car. The 4cyl in the GLE and the E Class feels awful.

The Lexus 2.0t sounds horrendous. To their credit they have ironed out the NVH (and I'm sure MB has too), but "silky smooth" it will never be like every Lexus should.
Can you be more specific? What do you mean it feels awful? I just hate the lag and sounds and just about everything else.
Unacceptable to have a fkn E-Class Benz with an "awful feeling" engine.
My friend has 4 cylinder turbo E class and it sounds anemic for a Mercedes.

They're awful!!! You used to get at least a silky powerful 6 with a base E-Class, going all the way back.... And you could get an E550 with the huge 5.5L M276, but not anymore.
On the plus side, at least the owner will never have to drop the engine just to replace a valve cover gasket. Lol
Don't assume! lol

I have had them as loaners, and I rented one and drove it all over LA last year and its awful. Honestly the Kia K5 I rented in Alabama was more enjoyable to drive. 6 Cyl E450 is another animal entirely, its amazing the difference. Same with the GLE350 vs 450.

All true but what if you went from the older car to the newer one and noticed the downgrade in NVH and response? I think that's what people are angry about for the most part......
I know my personal standards are destroyed to the point I started the 460 a day ago and almost panicked why the engine sounded damaged/rough lol!
Hey now! Show some respect! It's a MOUNTAINEER, that's LuxERy SON!
Hahahahahhahaha!
It looks like a coolant hose just blew in half, I'm heading down there now (awesome use of my time) and going to see WTH happened. This customer is one of my car smart ones so I know he didn't drive on it/overheat it but I'm fearful because this is a ford we are talking about....
This is exactly why I owned zero of these up to this point, I have NEVER had even my S-box old Jeep do something like this me. My first car to ever break down and it just HAD to be a ford in nearly the worst possible situation.
Now I'm freaking out that the system over pressured the hose for some reason and I'm facing a blown headgasket or some non-sense. Peak Ford
