General Car Conversation 2024 - part 2
Does my LX570 need this expensive stuff?
I'm changing out all the transfer case and diff fluids in about 10k miles.
Dealer doesn't want to touch the AHC, the head mechanic that's been there since Lexus became a brand said don't touch it. Not sure if I believe it or not, but the guy has credentials. My service advisor says they never see LXs in for AHC, maybe once in a blue moon. Not an "issue" with the vehicles, though. It's so infrequent she couldn't remember the last time she saw trouble with one.

I would still change it as the system uses a pump and valves, I've changed it on plenty of them and it's not hard to do. You can actually cheat it a little by setting the car to max low and sucking out the tank and then refilling before telling to go max hight, then you finish the lines
If the electrode is burning up prematurely, that's one sign the fuel mixture is too lean, which adds heat, or maybe the coolant-thermostat sticking closed too long before opening up, adding more heat. That heat can also deteriorate the engine oil prematurely.
Striker is a mechanic, I think he knows that...in any event like he said those were 40k rated plugs that had 78k on them.
I also need to change my O2 sensors and MAP since I know for a fact they are reading slow/off, I'm not mad at them considering 25 years and over 300k service but they are just old.
The 2022s are part of the recall, so that's not a surprise. Some good tracking spreadsheets out there to monitor failures. Some died at less than 1000 miles, others are nearing 100k miles without issue.
As for the 2024s, I know of 2 that have failed (might be three now), as I track it on a few available web sites.
It's a shame, because I LOVE how the hybrid version drives, and I almost bought one, but will be keeping my existing Tundra for the foreseeable future.
I considered an Ecoboost F-150, but the issues discussed on the forums scared me away, and the dealer had no V8s to try. The RAM with its new engine scares me. Will wait that one out. The only engine I liked in the GMC was the 6.2, but there are too many known issues with the fuel management system/cylinder deactivation. I know the consensus on CL is that the big three make reliable trucks, but I have spent too much time on their forums and at this point I struggle to find a reliable option.
So my 2021 Tundra will stay in my possession!

I may not be able to pay up many gas stations but I can pass up the service bays!!
Oh not an issue with power at all. Super happy with my 5.7 in that regard. Just feeling an itch for something new but not finding anything out there that would work.
