So swajames and had a few private messages and he provided a link with the data that I have never seen before here: https://www.tesla.com/fsd/safety

In short, I wanted to see Tesla on FSD crash rate compared to modern cars with all the safety features. The Tesla on FSD vs a Tesla with all the safety features but not on FSD provided the insight I needed.

With this I am willing to concede that FSD for the vast, majority is safer than a car with no FSD....with a attentive driver of course. Only gripe would be, the "supervisor" in the drivers seat after many miles do not maintain their attention compared to someone actually driving.

I still do have a couple issues with the data like most of FSD miles being driven are likely to be skewed to mostly good weather vs human drivers who are forced to drive through any weather. A large percentage of accidents are caused by bad weather.

Neat video showing a full FSD trip through LA on the upcoming 14.3 release. The visualization on the driver display shows how the car is tracking other road users, particularly interesting how well it does this even in busy traffic.

Same trip as above but raw 1x footage:

My Uber driver had a brand new Model Y and used FSD to take me to the airport this week. He said he uses it all the time and we talked about how great it was. The one thing that he mentioned that needed fixing, and I experienced it too, was going the wrong way on one way roads. Happened to me twice but for him he was going down a highway where there is one lane that changes the direction of traffic depending on the time of day or traffic flow and using FSD had him going the wrong way as cars were coming at him. Obvious he intervened and got over to the correct lane. Other things he agreed with me on was roadkill. Sometimes it moves around it, other times it runs right over it.

It is still by far the best drivers assistance aid I have ever used and will only get better. It doesn’t get tired and is always alert. As others have said it isn’t perfect but it is safer than the average driver.

I don't follow the forum or members closely enough to know what your prior stance was here (or how firm of a stance it was), nor do I have any type of strong opinion about FSD (even after owning a car with it for 3 years), but it appears that you are changing your position. I just wanted to say it is refreshing to see someone do that. I feel like that rarely happens - whether on a forum, or in "real life" conversations. I don't personally care what the topic is, just glad to see someone take the time to understand a different point of view and openly admit they changed their mind. Kudos.

Holy cow. I know what you are referring to with lanes that become dedicated to traffic flow direction based on time of day. That is scary.

And reasons like this are why it can't be fully autonomous yet. Even with this shortcoming, it still drives safer than most people, IMHO of course

It's been amazing for a while. Even on my HW3 car with an older version. The only goal going forward is to see how close to perfect Tesla can make it.

You have a Tesla and use FSD regularly?

How is it nonsense exactly when an owner that uses it says it's amazing but does make mistakes and has to be supervised? And clearly none of these folks are referring to the level of software and hardware from 10 years ago - which fyi FSD didn't exist then. Surprise!

Ever since FSD was released years ago, it continues to screw up at the most basic tasks, and the gullible faithfuls continue to parrot that everything is going to be fixed with xx.xx version. It’s pure comedy to watch.

It's pure comedy to read comments about how bad FSD is from folks that don't own a Tesla and don't use FSD obviously 😃

A relative of mine that also has HW3 on his 2019 Model 3 feels the same way.

It's called trolling. Like you don't feed the baboons at the zoo, don't feed the trolls please 🤣

It's not as good as HW4 on my son's 3, but it's still amazing. You still have to watch it though, but you get to know when you expect it might have issues.
