I was at the park yesterday just sitting and a nice looking professional guy decked out in a suit plugged his Audi in and took his dog for a walk, at first I thought he was just charging and was a little confused trying to figure it out.
Say he walks his dog for 30 mins assuming he’s on lunch (he had to be, was in a suit minus the jacket)… is there or is there not a meaningful gain in range from him doing that? My guess would be he has a garage with a charger at home.

If it's a Level 2 at least running at 9 to 11kW than it's worth it, it will top you off. If it's free, even better. a 7 kW charger gives you 25 to 30 miles in an hour, so he's gaining maybe 15 miles while walking his dog
Was it a free charger? I've been guilty of using the free chargers even if I don't really need it for a better spot + a top off during lunch
LOL. I think so, actually. Until I saw the dog I REALLY didn’t know wtf the deal was. This didn’t look like a guy challenged financially to keep his car charged lol.
I don’t pay attention as a non EV owner about free or not free charging etc. I’d use free chargers for sure as many as I could find at lunch. I’d just eat in the car.

He probably doesn't need to charge, but since it's there he probably just plugs in just to top off. I've gone to a Supermarket near my house where they have L2 chargers, didn't need to charge, but plugged in anyway, it was like $1 for an hour

In the Pacifica, if we see a free charger we use it. Why not? Its free miles.

I met a nurse/doctor who leaves his car overnight to charge at the dealership for free. Park, plug in, walk home. He plugs in right before dealership closes.

That really doesn't sound very practical at all. Installing a 240v circuit and charger will pay for itself in a few months. Like does his wife drop him off every day? That's sounds more like Penny wise, pound foolish

No I believe he walks to nearby apartment. Half mile or less. I’ve never seen any other car there when he grabs his briefcase and belongings and walks off. I believe he says he charges once a week.

Just shows how we all pinch pennies, or lots of us do. Even if it makes no difference when it’s all in our heads.
Healthcare workers are well paid, nurses and doctors at least. I have nurse and doctor friends whose incomes have increased along with the COL over the years. I talked to lots of different people about it when I was laid up. This friend of yours can certainly afford to keep his car charged lol.
But if I had some free gas trickle you bet your booty I’d be using it lmao.
My neighbor drives up and sits at the EA charger for her Ioniq 5 vs charging at her level 2 charger at home because its free. I wouldn't do that lol
I do try and only get gas on Tuesdays because Shell has Premium 10c off lol. Saves me maybe $1, $2 if the tank is empty. If I have to fill up before that it does **** me off!

We have free EA charging for our Ioniq 5 until July 2025, and we've only used it twice since last year. Would way rather charge at home. If we took it on a trip that's one thing, but for regular use, going to a charger, even a free one is a waste of time. As far as fill-up's, I most of the time went to Costco, but I would go in the morning when it was empty, if I got there around 7:45 there was no line, and it was on the way to my work anyway, being only a mile away from my office. I did though a few times wait in those long lines....never again
