I truly feel bad for you guys, because I don't want to travel any other way except with my EV'S. Here we can even take them into the mountains and national parks

Yeah it kind of sucks because the driving experience is so much better in my opinion.

Give it some time, everyone will eventually have a good charging infrastructure. Going back to 2020, even here in California only the brave and bold would travel in an EV. Now it's the same as travelling in a gas car if you have a Tesla, and it's doable if you have a non Tesla EV as well

It's not really an issue for me. My wife doesn't care for the ride of the Plaid, even with the 19s. Of course, she has been a passenger in a LS430 for the last 17 years, so the bar is really high. She isn't particularly fond of the RX350 either, but she likes it better than the Plaid. But that's a Plaid thing, not an EV thing.

But I'm not against the concept of an EV as a travel car. I said this years ago when the LS500 came out. If I were in charge of Lexus and could redesign one car, here's what I would do. Kill the LS500. Bring back the original nameplate LS400 as an EV with 400 miles of range. Air suspension without the stupid big wheels so it would ride as well or better than the original. Basically, if I could combine the luxury/comfort/ride/build quality of my LS430 with the drivetrain/tech of my Plaid, I would have the perfect car.

I was actually hoping Lexus would come out with a good EV, with the comfort and ride quality Lexus is known for, with at least 300 miles range and fast charging. I know this sounds silly, but if Toyota ever comes out with a Sienna with at least 300 miles range, 300 HP, 250 kW charging, I would be all over it.

I drove the LS500 at a Lexus event in 2021, and I actually thought it drove pretty well. But than I learned about the various issues it suffers, and understand why people hate it

I don't want a minivan, but I get the appeal. Hard to argue how practical and convenient they are for a family. An EV powertrain would do nothing but improve on that.

You need to test drive a BMW i7, it’s exactly as you describe you perfect car would be.

I just got back from WV and I was scoping out the charging options and made an interesting observation. They don’t show charging facilities on the signs before the exits that show what food/fuel/lodging is at each exit. EV owners don’t need those signs, because their nav systems route the chargers but I bet it would help adoption if people saw available charging on those signs…

Hopefully they build out charging infrastructure more in your area, because it sounds like you guys really need it. This is a typical stop for me heading to Southern Cal, you are only seeing one section, its actually 3x larger than the pic shows:

And this is a typical Tesla Super Charger in SoCal, again you are only seeing one section, it goes around the whole area outer parking area:

Is there a way you can tell how’s the charging network in Vegas and between Vegas and L.A.?

Also my friend said over the weekend he had to wait for a charger to be available as he was traveling from San Antonio. I told maybe due to holiday weekend

Lexus is the only luxury brand I'm willing to touch. And it's been questionable recently, especially when it comes to EV tech. But I still trust them more than the Germans.

Plus, it's ugly. And not just a little ugly, a lot ugly. Exterior needs to be total redesigned.

But the point about EV charging signs is valid. Not very well advertised. Most people without EVs have no idea the charging stations are even there.

CCS isn't inherently 'less reliable'. it's just that many early EA chargers gave it a bad reputation.

i have had zero issues on a couple of road trips, mostly at 350kw EA chargers but also at florida power company 180kw.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the car is incredible to drive.

You should also live a little on the luxury brands. My S Class has been a total joy to own, much better all around car than the LSs I have had and just as reliable if not more reliable. It would take a really incredible car to get me to consider a Lexus again.

Even though I’ve put 50k miles on it, it still completely wows me on a long interstate trip like the one I just completed. A total highway machine.

Yes, it will show you in map when adding the charging stops. With stops with mixed chargers, they are usually marked, but as a reference, thick cable=150kW and thin cable=250kW
