Default How doI remove some rust on my brakes?

Some of the iron parts of the rotors have rust on them. Can I get some kind of spray from Autozone that will remove it?

Thx in advance for any replies!

Clean off the rust with brake cleaner spray, about $3. Then paint the rotor hats with hi-temp paint.

Thanks for the info. Also, I'm kinda hesitant on painting my rotor hub section and calipers as I have never done this before. Is there a thread regarding step by step procedures to do this?

You can also remove the rust easily with a Dremel or similar hand tool. Use the rotary brush attachment. I did it on mine recently. Took 5 mins per rotor.

<<Dremel or similar hand tool. Use the rotary brush attachment.>>

Did you use the copper-colored, steel-colored, or black colored brush attachments?

I used the Stainless Steel Brush (530) and it worked fine. However, Dremel recommends the Carbon Steel Brushed for removing rust and polishing metal (Eg: 428) .

Check out:

I've also used a brush attachment for a standard drill to remove rust from a muffler in th epast. I don't see why you couldn't use it in this case as well. The advantage of a Dremel would be being able to get into the nooks, crannies and polishing.

Make sure you wear some safety glasses.

I hate to sound like a grownup , but if you have ever had a piece of metal stuck in you eye you know I am just trying to save you alot of pain.

Also, cleaning and painting your rotors and calipers really makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in the way your car looks.

Good luck!
