Default Navigation door inop

Hello all,

The navigation door on my 2002 is stuck in the "open" position. The navigation system itself works fine, tilts up and down and the open close buttons work for the navigation unit itself, just the door does not come down after its retracted back. It is still on the tracks and when I push the button to close there is no sound coming from the unit (dead motor maybe?).

I checked the fuse in the passenger panel for the navigation system and it was good. The door that closes the radio is also working fine.

Is there another fuse that controls the motor for the door?

Since I never use the navigation system, is there a way to override and close the door to give it a clean look?

Thank you all in advance!

Does sound like a motor has died. There is a thread on replacing them. In the meantime you can manually and gently manipulate the door forward and down to close it.

You can leave it in CLOSE state but then your backup cam will not operate.

I do not have a back up camera, but that is good information for the future if I want to add one.

You can buy the whole unit off e-bay for $150-$200. It takes about 20 min to change out. It is very simple. Lots of good how to videos on youtube. That is what I did when I bought our 06 last Nov-Dec and that door motor was shot. I even changed out the wood grain panel so it matched perfectly even though the used one I bought had the same wood grain. It is real easy. The original owner traded it in with 59,295 on the clock in 2017 because Lexus of Tulsa told her it $9,995 to replace.

Make them an offer of $200 what can it hurt. Start watching e-bay for these units

Off topic but related. I have been looking at buying a RR plate mounted back up camera (through Iphone). I really do not use the GPS on the SC as I use Waze. So I rely on the Iphone once I hop into the SC for Waze and music through Bluetooth. And adding a back up camera will help. They are not expensive nowadays and easy to install. Thoughts?

Just an idea, if you can't fix it for cheap, just leave the door open and do a live rear view display with the help of Navtools or Naviks.
My door is still working but I have it setup like that.
This help visibility of the rear when the roof is closed.

The cameras are inexpensive, but the navtool or naviks is where it gets pricey
