Default removing the cat/Available intake

Hey guys, first of I want to thank everyone, for answering my post and helping me decide on what coilovers to go with. Also want to thank CircuitMS for the amazing group buy opportunity. I wish I would of done this the day I bought the car, it is such a pleasure to drive it now, that I parked my ISF with a cover on it and just having a ball driving the SC top down. I know there are posts regarding the questions I am about to ask, but I want to hear some of your opinions. First I don't want to go crazy butchering the exhaust system, just want a sportier sound. I was thinking of removing the only cat we can remove with getting headers. Has anyone done just that, how does it sound? Feel of it inside the car? Any gains? Second, is about the intakes that are avail for our cars. Can you guys please chime in regarding what kind of intake you currently have and your opinion regarding it.

Thank you
Rob

Don't know what the rules are in NY but you'd never pass emissions/smog checks in the Republic of California with the suggest modification. Then once you fail the test, CARB and DMV are all over you. Then the nightmares start and don't stop until the car is old enough to be considered an antique.

You'd also run into issues with the o2 senors which are located up and downstream from the catalytic converter. If you do a search some members have done modification and then produced YouTube clips, linking the to the CL comments. You can get a general idea of how their mods altered the resonance of the exhaust system.

I would leave the cat in its place if I were you. There is no noticeable power increase by removing them.

You will also get a constant smell of exhaust fumes, especially with the roof down!!

The exhaust fumes without a cat is also carcinogenic.

I just got those..

I generally do not like canceling cats but i wanted to see the power gain. I looked around for high flow cats but couldn't find anything.

Regarding o2 issues..

I already have PPE headers.. awesome bump in performance but i do have a loud valve tap sounds.. seems like a leak in my case but even when that's rctified you will still hear the valves with performance headers.. loved the power bump though.

Regarding intakes, Injen is the only decent option for a bolt on upgrade but opinions are mixed on power gains with the injen so i have decided to venture off in doing a BFI intake mod. I have posted a thread on this but haven't gathered enough info though. You can always google BFI Intake and try to venture off in that. Results have been proven by many who have tried it.

Goodluck

Thanks guys, I am considering putting the x-pipe and removing that single cat. Anyone near new york area with an intake who does not mind letting me check it out.

I'm not sure I get it. This to replace the 3rd cat which doesn't have an O2 sensor and improve airflow? Did you notice any performance improvement or change to the exhaust sound? Do you have a custom exhaust too?
