Anyone else with an iPhone get a major burst of static when initiating a call? Trying to decide if I have an issue in my phone or my car, or if it's just a defect in one or the other?
First question robsvdp, did you unlock your phone to use on another network? Second question which network are you on? Third question which Iphone do you have the 4 gb, 8 gb or 16 gb? Forth question which generation Iphone do you have? Fifth question what year is your sc430?
1) Phone is still locked to AT&T
2) AT&T is therefore still the carrier
3) It's an 8GB iPhone
4) There is only one generation of iPhone so far; I am running the latest firmware, but this problem existed on earlier versions of the firmware
5) My SC is an '06, and it is the factory bluetooth
By the questions can I take it that you have an iPhone and don't have any issues like this?
I have an 8GB iphone as well, BUT I have a GS350. No problems here. I don't see why lexus would build a bluetooth thats completely different from other models.
Probably not going to solve anything, but try to delete the phone from the car and redo the process again and see if it still happens. Doesn't hurt to try.
I purchased my 2008 SC430 about a month ago and I have exactly the same setup (ATT, 8GB..) and have exactly the same problem. Very loud, short(1-2 second) static burst when you first initiate a call through bluetooth interface.
My iphone interferes with many devices. I have to move it away from telephones with speakers in them as well as radios, stereos, boom boxes you name it, the iphone can talk static to it. The static seems to occur when it's going out to the internet for something. That may be part of the problem you are having with bluetooth.
yeah the at&t phones actually interfere with many devices as bt430 said. The signal that they use causes interference with speakers and that is probably what you hear. it's just a slight feedback with the speakers and it becomes louder the closer the phone is to the radio device. I wonder if it actually damages the speakers or other radio devices though.
I have the same set-up as you (08 SC with 8gig Iphone). I haven't had any issues with static burst in the car. I have had issues when the phone gets close to any speakers though (home stereo, alarm clock and computer speakers etc..).
Do you keep your phone in your pocket when you get in the car? My guess is that could cause static if the phone is in your left pocket - next to the door. I generally keep my phone in my right pocket or take it out and place it in/on the center unit of the car - so since away from any speakers, I've never gotten any static.
Obviously this is just my guess, but it doesn't seem like any static should transmit through the bluetooth so it only seems reasonable if the phone is near a speaker.
