Default It's Here!!

Finally.........after 10 long months! Maybe this is a record wait, huh? Deposit provided to the dealer on 1/24/01, a week BEFORE the Houston Auto Show based on having seen just a few photos and reading one or two very general articles.

I'd decided my next car would be a convertible and after several months of looking opted to wait a little longer if I could be the owner of Lexus' first convertible.

So fitting that I could take delivery this past Monday, the 26th....it was my birthday! Unfortunately, nothing but cold, rainy days since, so the true road tests have yet to begin.

I'm delighted with the beauty of this vehicle but somewhat apprehensive about the posts i've been reading about the ride with the run-flats. Will report back!

You will LOVE this car, run flats and all. Personally, I haven't found them to be that bad, and there is a little bit of comfort knowing that a flat wouldn't necessitate a tow. The trunk space saved by not having a spare is absolutely essential. How else could you carry your golf clubs in the trunk with the top down? Congratulations and happy driving!!

Congrats, Janet, and welcome!
Mine is Midnight Pine & Saddle.
Keep that Ecru clean, and condition it often! I wish I had pics of my 93 SC400's driver's seat -- it wasn't pretty!

10 long months? I wish it was only 10 months for me -- I would have had it by the start of autumn in Dallas -- those were some great months (I'm sure you've seen the winter weather by now).

I sent in my deposit on 11/07/2000.
The dealer called me on 11/23 (last Friday), and I drove it home that night. Some say I was waiting forever. My first estimate was August/September, but the dealer said it could be January 2002. I was delightfully surprised -- the best after-Thanksgiving shopping I've ever done.

Be sure and give us your opinions. Pray for sunnier skies -- I could use them up here! And love the new ride every day.

I feel for you, Antigeek & Janet. I waited about 8 months when I bought my Corvette. It was bitter-sweet between the anticipation and the hell of waiting. I lucked out with the Lexus, however... it was ready within 2 days after I went to the dealer, decided to purchase, and put my deposit down. A car just happened to become available when I was there. Reading about your long wait, I realize how fortunate I was.

Although it's difficult to tell from most of the names seen in this forum, it didn't appear that there were any ladies here. I was just thinking about that last night and suddenly Janet appears this morning!

It will be refreshing to hear some comments from the distaff side.

Congrats, Janet ... you will *love* your car!

Default Congratulations!

I was one of the more fortunate ones who was able to get my hands on a new SC 430 back in mid April. Mine is white with the saddle interior. I have had gold trim added to the badges, emblems, and wheel circle logos. I have had nothing but positive looks and comments since I have had the car. People give me thumbs up and strangers tell me how beautiful the car is and ask if I will lower and raise the top for them. It is almost embarrasing! Mine also has the conventional tires with the spare in the trunk which, based on some of the comments I have read in this forum and others, I am now glad came equipped that way. I do not think the ride is harsh at all but I have noticed that the rear suspensions does clunk when you take speed bumps a little too fast. Lexus has ordered the newly designed rear mount cushions for me and they should have them installed in about a week. They have also had a problem with the Mark Levinson stereo system amplifier which they have now replaced. The system would go to full volume out of the blue. It happened to me twice and it can be scary when you are not at all prepared for that to happen. I have also had some problems with the passenger seat rattles. For any of you who may have experienced this I can offer a few suggestions based on my experience which you may pass on to your servicing dealers to check. The seat rails were replaced and that seemed to help some. They also found some wiring harnesses that were vibrating against the hard plastic covers under the seat. A few well placed cable ties and felt strips helped some. Ironically the thing that completely eliminated this problem for me was the most simple. It appears that you must have the lumbar support extended some or it might allow the seat to rattle! Who knew? I never sat in the seat and in fact didn't realize that it was in the fully relaxed position. Three weeks now with no hint of a rattle! I guess buying any new production car means you may have to live with a few inconveniences. I am certainly glad I got the car when I did. I have certainly enjoyed it and I must say that Lexus has been very supportive in helping me get to the bottom of these minor problems.

Enjoy your new car. I know you are going to love it!

The system would go to full volume out of the blue.
Well, THAT explains it. The first time I used the steering wheel audio controls I thought I had inadvertently hit the SET switch instead of the VOL down switch because the volume immediately went to max. I thought either the dealer or the factory set it by mistake. I reset the SET switch volume but it happened again after a couple of weeks.

Most likely I hit the correct switch both times but the amp played its trick. As soon as my SC comes out of winter hibernation, I'll have the dealer replace that amp.

BTW ... the build date on my car is 06/01. Someone here in this forum stated that this problem and the suspension problem were remedied after 06/01. "After" is the key word here.
