When I was looking on the Lexus site last evening to see if they gave the gear ratio(s) for the 6speed and the rear gear (just curious because of another thread ) I came across this in the technical data page for the 2007 SC430 "Power mast antenna with adjustable height and FM-diversity system". While I understand completely what a diversity antenna array does it generally requires 2 or more antennas. Generally these are on the front and rear windows. So where is the other antenna on the SC (Front window)? Also how and why would you use the adjustable height feature of the mast antenna on the rear quarter? As far as I know the antenna is either all up or all down depending on whether the car radio is on.

 

This feature started with the 06 , my 06 is sometimes searching for better reception I see the antenna making height adjustments....

 

Wow, I'll have to pay attenion to this. So do you know if there is a second antenna anywhere?

 

My 04's antenna goes up 3/4 of the way on FM and all the way on AM.
I remember reading something similar about the 'diversity' antenna, but it only has that one. Maybe they call it 'diversity' because it raises to 2 different levels? You know how manufacturers love to embellish things.

 

yeah it sounds like a fancy schmancy term to me. on our 04 the antenna would go up and down depending on the radio station. it was a little annoying at times b/c you'd be switching back and forth between FM Stations and you could hear the mast go up and down each time. it seemed gimmicky - i don't think it really added to the reception quality either way. maybe in some neighborhoods it would make a difference?

 

THe antenna in my '03 goes extends a little more on certain FM frequencies... so if I go from KROQ to JACK FM (106.7 to 93.1) it will extend a little longer.

 

So, there is no second antenna (If there is I can't find it). I guess being and engineer I expect diversity to really be diversity not a tuned or optomized antenna lenght.
