Window regulator fix for Sc models
Yup im gonna get one from him too, he's the man to go to for parts. but Im gonna try a to fix it anyway just to see. On the bottom of the plastic piece where it broke im going to clip a piece of lead to the metal cable instead of using jb weld like OLT did. Trying something different.
I was going to tear into mine tomorrow, it shouldn't be too hard, just find all the bolts and take then out, but then again, we do drive SC's, and lexus doesn't like to make anything too easy. One of my friends with his s14 240sx took his door panel off in about 1 minute while I was trying to get mine off just to laugh at me. But I am much happier with my car than his.
I am working on this right now, but came to a stopping point. Got the regulator and motor out no problem in about 15 minutes. But the problem is, my new regulator's wire spool came undone. Is there anyone that can help explain how to get it on or show pics of theirs on? The wires come in through a little x piece at two ends, and they go through a little valley before reaching the spool, then they connect and wrap around in opposite directions. It's a PITA!
Thanks,
Adam

hmm... my passenger one is not broken but it rulls up and down very slow when its cold... when its warm it works fine... i have cleaned and degreased the rail and still, same problem..
that's a great write-up OLT. i'm about to look into my friend's faulty power window on a Maxima. i automatically assumed that if the window doesn't go up it's the motor's fault (i'm sure the dealer replaces both just to jack up the price), but after reading this it seems everyone's problem is w/ the regulator rather than the motor. that's good b/c regulators cost about 40 shipped on ebay rather than 60+ with the motor for maximas in case i can't fix it w/ this write-up.
Easy Removal/Installation Procedure
I was having the same problem with the upper right guide bolt trying to remove the regulator and even more trouble with it when trying to re-install the regulator back in.
Here is the procedure that I used to re-install the regulator that worked well for me.
- I noticed in your photo that you had removed the door trim upper panel which I did also. I also removed the window weatherstrip that is attached by metal clips.
- Raise the window all the way up and use a piece of duct tape to hold it up.
- Position the regulator so that the left upper guide bar bolt is through its mounting hole.
- You will need to apply pressure against the window to get enough space for the right upper guide bar bolt. The easiest way is to reach in from above where the weatherstrip was mounted and press against the window with your thumb while the rest of your fingers are pushing against the inside of the door. In the meantime use your other hand to move the guide bar so that the right upper bolt is threaded through. This was real easy once one created enough space.
It may be possible to avoid the extra steps of removing the door trim upper panel and the weather strip. One may be able to still apply enough pressure to create the space by sitting inside the car and pressing against the window with one's elbow while the door is closed. With the other hand one can then position the guide bar. I haven't tried this.
