Mine finally kicked the bucket 3 days ago. Nice long run off a simple repair IMO.
Ended up sticking another one in from a parts car I already had here so too convenient not to.
Now that Carson toyota has sold these for under $100 these days, it's a toss up on repair V/S new. 4 yrs ago when we started this DIY repair was definitely the option.

Almost 4 years-- for $5-- I'd say that's worth the money-- I think the people that had problems with this repair just don't have that OCD over meticulous type A personality as some folks do that overdo things..........
I Know this is a silly questions but...
Whats the difference between the regulator and the motor? I'm not sure if i need a new motor or not. Basically the plastic broke on top of my regulator on my rear back window. and for my front left window the cable snapped. both motors still sound to be working. so would buying a regulator fix my problem? do the old motors just hook up the the new regulators??
btw, i have a gs300. thansk.

so my window regulator snapped. i have a 1995 SC400. i want to order a window regulator off ebay. do 92-00 window regulators for sc's all the same? and it snapped on the DRIVER SIDE
well it seems as if i am having a totally different problem from you guys. My windows moved up and down. But only partially. It won't close all the way like the passenger side. And it won't open all the way like the passenger side. It seems as if the motor just gives up and does only a certain percentage of work
So it works but it get stuck then i have to manually push it up or down. So i don't move it at all anymore. Maybe my wires got tied up somehow ? any suggestions. I have taken a look at the window inside but i can't seem to unbind them.

Did you get an answer? I'm there, too, staring at the plastic wrap on the left, the speaker assembly on the right and just knowing that the problem is somewhere in between behind the metal door panel. Now what?
How do I remove the driver window glass?
I can't seem to get the regulator guide and motor out.
On 1/7/05, Nomis described how to remove the nuts (see attached picture), one at bottom of regulator guide (over the lower pulley), two at the top of the guide, and three for the motor.
My problem is that I can't back out the right upper guide bar bolt (with the upper pulley behind it) because the window behind it is in the way. It just doesn't flex enough. Window up or window down or window in mid-position.
Can someone tell me how to remove the trim and pull the window? Or point me to a thread?; my searching couldn't find one. This is probably real easy and obvious to some of you advanced guys, but I've pulled every screw I can find, and still can't get the trim and window out.
Thanks. 93 SC 400.
PS: I got my new regulator guide with pulleys and capstan from Carson; thanks for the good info! I needed a new one since one of the regulator fingers around the guide bar had broken; it was more than a JB weld repair of the bead that is embedded in the regulator.

push window all the way up, push one bolt thru, and then use a screwsdriver to push the second bolt thru.
you will need a little force.
did you remove the bolts that hold the glass to the regulator?

It seems my passenger's side window motor is weak or something.
But the thing is, when the weather is really hot and dry, the window rolls up and down with good speed.
When the weather's cold/rainy/humid, the window rolls with difficulty and with very slow speed.
What could this be?
My passenger side window regulator went out a few weeks ago. I ordered a new part from Carson Toyota and really didn't have any problems swapping out the parts. The plastic piece was broken in three areas.
Notice the two 'fingers' broken off:

Here you can see where the part was starting to break similar to the way OLT's broke:

if a window is going up and down slowly. what can be done to speed it up. is there a special lubricant for the tracks to smooth it out?
the window works good its just a little slower than the driver side?
thanks
