Remote key
For a 1992 sc300 would any aftermarket remote key work like any off ebay etc?
whats the procedure to programming the key? my car only came with the master key
For those early SC models the keys don't get programmed the way later model 97+ SC's and 97+ Lexus vehicles do. I know that for the late model Lexus models there is a specific door lock and unlock sequence to follow. For the early models the OEM remote master keys are matched to a specific radio transponder that they are matched to at the time of purchase (ie: you could buy a "kit" with a new transponder for the vehicle with only x1 remote master key, 2x remote master keys, 3x or 4x remote master keys.... always as a matched set).
The vehicle lock cylinders all being cut to match the key spades are a separate matter I think.
It's better to get a new matched OEM set but those may not be available any longer from Lexus. Used sets would be the next best thing.... but then the lock cylinders not matching the cuts of the used remote master keys you just bought would be an issue.
...
Alternative to all of that would be to continue using your current non-remote master keys (and AFAIK you can still get Lexus to cut you additional non-remote master and valet keys for the SC300/400 as of 2020) but instead of getting a stock Lexus remote keyless entry key set with matching transponder you can probably buy an aftermarket keyless entry system: this would consist of a separate remote entry key fob (or more than one fob) for your keychain plus a matching transponder that would get installed in the stock location for the Lexus remote entry transponder.
That way you can keep your original lock cylinders and matching keys (or get a couple more new ones cut) but also install aftermarket keyless entry to replace the old Lexus system.
Now if Lexus will still sell you OEM remote master key sets cut to your VIN-specific lock cylinders with the required OEM keyless entry transponder.... find a dealer who offers good prices for it and get that as your first option.
But if Lexus no longer offers those keyless entry key sets for pre-1997 SC's then I'd suggest getting another 1-2 non-remote master keys cut for your car by Lexus and then install an aftermarket keyless entry fob system. All SC's were already set up for such a system even if the option never came with a particular car from the factory.
.....
FYI, the early SC300/400 OEM remote master keys only had one button on the side. It only does locking and unlocking functions. No panic mode, no remote trunk release. Just lock and unlock. There is a little switch under the steering column that allows you to manually turn the remote entry system on and off on the early 1992-1994 SC's... which I think was removed on later models but I am not sure when.
I just had an additional thought and that is with an aftermarket keyless entry fob system it is probably also possible to tap that system into the SC's electronic trunk release solenoid if the aftermarket keyfob has a button that supports remote trunk release. Additional wiring for early model year SC300/400's would be required for that.
Additionally all 1992-1994 SC300/400's did not "beep" or flash their lights in any way to tell you whether or not you locked or unlocked your car. Only a visual confirmation of the door lock/unlock toggles on the inside door handles will indicate if you just remotely locked or remotely unlocked your early model year 92-94 SC.
If you want to add "beep" and light flashing functions to a 92-94 SC along with a remote keyless entry system (OEM or aftermarket) then you'd want a KP Technologies "Electronic Beep Module" P/N EB20. That is a little electronic module that requires some custom electrical installation.

So, for my 92 all I would have to do is purchase a $50 eBay keyless entry kit, wire it up and it would not effect the oem alarm unit?
Removing the oem unit is not required, correct?

Anytime ive been inside a locked modern car then unlocked it with the interior switch (or unlocked a locked car through the window) the alarm has went off.
The aftermarket key fob I think would just be tricking the car that I'm pressing the switch?
Has anyone made any progress on this topic - or gotten something working nice - I'm not seeing much when using the search feature...
I'd love to be able to unlock my car without putting the key in the cylinder, I see "deathbarel" reported a strange quirk with the unlock function not working with a locked car...
