Default rear speaker grilles

Guys,

I want to paint my faded rear speaker grilles black. Can I just pry them out by hand or are they somehow screwed in. Any help would be appreciated.

The center one does, but the side two have three screws each.

Thanks. Do you remove the back deck to expose the screws?

Yup, that's right. It tears easily so watch out and repair stress areas using anything from Gorilla to JB weld (personal favorite). Holds up well after that.

I noticed the same thing. It's really wedged in there under the side trim.

First you have to remove the rear seats, then one side of the rear panels and a seat belt. It's better if you can remove all of them, but only one side is absolutely necessary as you need to create room to remove the rear deck panel carefully so it doesn't break as it's very fragile. There's a thread with instructions on here, first time I'd give yourself a full day to do this job so you can do it carefully without breaking anything.

Its actually probably easier to remove the old fabric from the speaker cover and put new fabric on.

I did all of mine for under $5....check JO-ANN fabric or any crafts store

It was a surprise to me too how to remove the rear deck. I had to remove the rear seats, then the rear side panels just to be able to remove the deck without ruining it. I should've glassed it when I did it to strengthen the deck though. There's 4 screws for each speaker grille underneath. Painted it with Dupli Color Vinyl & Fabric paint I bought from O'Reilly and it looks really good after the whole process. It now matches the deck itself and not popping out with the faded fabric it used to have. Did it to the tweeter and speaker cover for the doors too.

If I can an FYI to speed up this for you. I recently swapped out my rear speakers & added 6.5 kickers. The bottom of the back seat where your butt would sit is the 1st thing that need to be pulled to get started. .. Pull up & it pops right out.

That will expose 3 bolts (they lock the seat back in place) remove those 3 bolts.

Then from the bottom. Pull straight up on the seat back & it will come loose.

From there, you'll need to remove the seatbelt, & side rear panel. pretty simple. then as mentioned.. ease the back of the rear deck out being careful not to break it.
