Basic Tire Size Question - 92 SC400
Hello,
Yes, I did read the huge tire thread - lol. Anyway, I have a basic question. If I go on tirerack.com to select tires for my 92 SC400, I only get tire sizes of 225/55ZR16.
Does this mean I cannot put low profile 16" tires on my car? I don't want to change anything at all. I just want to put new tires on the car that are low profile (low sidewall height).
To me, low profile tires look cooler. I'm not sure how they would fair in NY though. Do they make driving more bumpy or what? Then again, I cannot drive this car in NY winters.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Last time I was in NY changing lanes was like a roller coaster ride! Lower profile tires will be more responsive but a rougher ride, unless you want to lower the car you need a larger wheel to compensate for for diameter, Your PCM, ABS computers are calibrated for the stock roll out and wheel offset (changes tire scuff) is huge when it comes to how ruts and such effect handling.

It'll end up looking like a hoopty with rubber bands on tiny rims and big fender gap. Plus all the technical reasons stated above. If you want low profile tires, get bigger rims, then at least it'll look right and maintain proper overall diameter. Otherwise you're sacrificing a lot for no benefit.
