Idle Question
When I start my car, it idles at around 12 grand. On every other car I've had you can hit the gas and it will idle down. My 92 SC400 is not doing this. Once I've driven it awhile, and put it in park it idles at around 7 grand. Is this normal? It seems like I'm at the pump quite bite also. I have a gravel ally and I have to ride the brakes when I leave the house(as not to kick up too much dust on freshly washed car). Thanks for any replies. J. Green
That is not normal, you might wanna check your throttle body and choke. Spray a lot of wd40 in that area because something is holding it open. If you live in a really cold or really hot area, the rust and debris is building up in your throttle area. Have it cleaned and you should be fine.

are you talking about 12,000 RPM's??
Maybe you mean 1.2grand or 1200rpms?
12000 is past redline.
Anyway...your car should idle below 1000 normally once warm.

I've been meaning to ask this for a long time but I kept forgetting but its idle related. When my car is all warmed up and driven for a while the car will idle at normal RPMs. Thats with the AC off. When I turn the AC on the car idles over 1000RPMs I beleive. When you have your foot on the brake and you let go the car pretty much takes off and has a very fast idle speed. When the AC is off the car goes nice and normal after u let the brake go. Is this normal on SCs? I've been having this problem ever since I bought the car. Its like the car is working double overtime when the AC is on and it gets all worked up to go and is harder to stop. If you try to stop it it comes to a dead stop and gives u a whiplash. Well that might be over exaggereating it but its a very harsh stop. Witht he AC off it comes to a nice slow smooth stop. Does anyone elses SC do this or is mine messed up?

I cant say about the stoping but with my 5 speed when the A/C is ON idle is ~1000 and off it is 500-750. It makes sense to me it just has to turn faster to compress the air to make it nice and chilly for when the GF doea not want her hiar blowing all around with the windows down.
