diagnostic question

i tried checking for codes but all it does is continuously blinks fast. What does this mean? I did have code 71 but after i rerouted the vacuum lines and pulled the negative cable off for a good five minutes, i just got this countinous blinking.

71 is an egr malfunction code, The flashing is cause of the ECU reset and the scanner probably.

Well check engine lights hasnt come back. I hope it stays that way.

or you can put a resistor into the temp. sensor

Would this play any effect with smog because im pretty sure im going to have to smog my car at the end of the year. Plus i live in cali. I just want to pass it without having to repair anything, because im planning to swap it in the spring.

As long as the CEL doesn't come back on you should be fine. The EGR really only opens at Idle.

the constant blinking is to let you know that you don't have a code. Or it can also mean "code 0"

not really it opens during cruise. if it opened up only during idle then the idle would stumble.

and to the op the light is blinkin because the ecu has been reset and there are no codes stored. you should be able to pass smog, since there is no OBD II functional check for your car so id say reset the light before the test. and hope it doesnt come on during the test.
