Default Gated Shifter questions

So I'm going about installing my shifter at the moment and got it mounted and everything. I'm now going to finish up the wiring and read through the other posts and want to know exactly where I'll be able to find the speed sensor wire? Should be a pink wire.. but from what harness should I be tapping it from?

Yup.. already looking much better than the old

Sorry, no thank you.

Anyways, I had finished this a few days ago. This is actually a pretty simple/easy conversion, in my opinion. If you can wire aftermarket stereos and are pretty handy with simple tools, this should be easy.

I actually did not wire and tap for a 12v and the speed sensor. From tapping the 12v from the cig. lighter and tapping the spd. sensor from the cluster, I wasn't able to shift up from neutral to reverse. I would only be able to do so by pushing the override. Leaving off the 12v and spd. sensor, I could shift from N to R just fine. Everything worked fine without tapping those 2 wires... so I left them out. Anyone know the purpose of having those 2 connections?

Like everyone has said, I cut the shift linkage shorter by an inch:

Mounted it in and wired everything up:

And the finished product, an updated look

looks good. interesting that it will allow you shift. I am having the opposite issue where it is not allowing me shift without them wired (which I have read is the norm)

i would think the 12v would run the electronics of the OD and the lights. However the ACC might as well.

The speed signal input is supposed to prevent shifting into reverse while the car is moving. I'm guess it's to prevent damage to the tranny.

Yeah, thats what I had figured, but when I'm not even moving and I'm also pressing on the brakes, the shifter still locked out on N and I still couldn't shift up to R and P without the override. I might be tapping the wrong wires but I'm not sure. If someone could show me exactly what wires you tapped for the 12v and speed, that would be awesome.

Great job in the gated shifter!

Not sure if it matters, but can the issues have anything to do with the gated shifter being off a 5spd auto installed onto a 4spd auto trans?

I purchased mine off of a member here. I believe there are 2 of them for sale in the classifieds right now.
