Default use your power button for something again ...

to anyone who has an aftermarket stereo ... are you tired of not being able to use your OEM power button for anything??

I started to prep my car for the JDM rear windshield and I decided to rewire my OEM stereo power button to turn on the rear windshield wiper. I came to find out that the OEM power button is a momentary switch, which means that it will send power as long as you have it pressed down, but I needed a true ON/OFF switch ... so this is how I did it ...

first thing was to remove the switch from the car

then I pretty much took it all apart ... I only messed with the stereo ****

ok now that all that is apart ... I got a push button switch from RadioShack ... cost $2.99

and I took off the F&F red button ...

...

I used the GREEN and ORANGE wires to run from an ACC signal to the wiper

and then after some soldering ... I just put everything back together

and there ... now my OEM power button serves another purpose!

it was hardly any effort ... the hardest part was figuring out it was a momentary switch, after that it was easy

hell the write up took longer!

Stock momentary function would also make a great incognito nitrous button.

GSpec: if you wanted to use it as a momentary switch just tap into the GREEN and ORANGE wires

Ryeno: man I'm impressed!! that was QUICK. and thanks for adding some clarification, I'm sure it will help anyone else that wants to do this little mod

nice work ! I would PAY to figure how to actually make it control the volume though! Good idea to actually replace the factory switch.

Just curious, how could some relays be wired up to replicate the new on/off switch??
