driving with no maf sensor
My maf sensor went bad and I have been driving with it unplugged. The car runs great but bounces off the rev limiter at full throttle. Is it harmful to my car to be driving with the maf unplugged?
its doable. i had some weird issues with it and drove for a few days with the maf unplugged. ran decent. i never beat on it so i cant say at redline.
if you know your car is not working properly why the hell would you take it to redline? thats just stupid. next post from you will be a thread of knocking or blown motor due to leaning it out.

I agree with the other guy. I don't know how you are managing to drive without an MAF plugged in. Not only does this sensor tell the car the amounty of air coming in, but also it tells the car the temperature of the air outside coming into the motor. Which is important to the fuel mixture. Our cars run better in cooler air temperatures, but require a richer mixture of gas. Without knowing the amount of air and temperature of the air coming in, your cars ECU is going to be reading all screwed up. If you are having a problem with your MAF, I would highly suggest parking it until you buy a new sensor. Get ready though, if you get this sensor from a dealership it will run over $900.00. That is just for the sensor. Any dumbass can install it, so refrain from having the dealership do this for you. It will only take you a few minutes to do. If you can't afford that, I would suggest checking junk yards for one off of a wrecked car. If you have an SC400, then the MAF off of an LS400 will also fit and work properly. Doing this is like anything else you buy from a junk yard....cross your fingers and hope that the part is good! Good Luck

I thought the same thing as you guys. My previous car would not even run with the MAF disconnected. Basically w/o the MAF the car runs strictly off the ECU and does not take into account any of the other sensors to adjust the air/fuel.
Just remember your MPG will suffer just by running with the MAF disconnected.

My brother had a bit of nitrous backfire one time. He blew out the honeycomb and everything else that was in there. We did notice the car run a bit lean when we ran it for a day. After the MAF was replaced it ran perfectly fine. I wouldnt recommend running without it.
