97+ spoiler LEDS replace...?
So anyone figure out how to replace the the burnt out LEDS on the 97+ spoilers? Which LEDs and where to get them? I'm really trying to avoid going to the dealer to buy the over priced replacement. I'm sure 90% of 97+ owners have this problem.
The problem with the LEDs is that the circuit board gets damaged, so some work and some don't. Instead of testing to see if the old LEDs worked I just had all of mine replaced, and we used wiring as jumper cables over the damaged circuit board, but now it needs to be redone again since 3 of them aren't working (hopefully it is just the wires coming loose due to bad soldering). My brake lights are super bright now though, so people know when I'm stopping.
Wish I could tell you, but I didn't do the work. Friend of mine fixed it, but all he told me was that he needed to get Red LEDS and not white ones. He probably got them from his work or something. I'll try asking him if he remembers where he got them from and info on them. I just remember him asking me if I wanted low, medium, or high. I chose medium, but now I think I should have gone with low because its too bright.
I found this post yesterday .......

i have the same problem and was looking at this web site and wasnt to sure if this was gonna work http://www.mastlight.com/Products/HL-40LEDDCR.html
PecosBill I believe we have 40 LEDs? The led strip you listed only has 15 per strip. I haven't actually cracked mine open yet cause I'm waiting on finding a suitable replacement first. I could be wrong. LAVIsH you might have the right one, I have yet to see the stock spoiler brake light housing Dismantled. Anyone have any pics and pointers on dismantling it?
we NEED to find a solution to this problem because alot of members are dealing with this. Buying a replacement part from Lexus doesn't makes sense because its too $$$$, and finding a used part is impossible because nobody wants to seperate it from the spoiler.
The spoiler has 30 LED not 40. I just took mine apart to get a picture of how mine was fixed. My friend said it was just regular 5mm LEDs on the spoiler, nothing special. He replaced all of them because it was easier then testing them individually and he didn't know what the stock mcd was. He said the following was what he used:
30-40 5mm red led (Extras just in case you screw up)
Multimeter
12v power source to test if it works
soldering iron/desoldering iron
Electrical wiring
A few hours to work (But he took 2 weeks to finish mine -_-')

The red jumper wires were to bypass the damaged circuit board.
